when I sing out loud, in my head I can sound great, (you know...X-Factor material) and yet everyone else says I sound terrible, and to be fair, when I record myself I have to agree...I do! But why do I sound so different (and great) to myself? :o(

Since your ears are behind your mouth, the soundwaves of what you are singing reverberate somewhat through your jaw bone before they get to your ears. This is why people often hear themselves as speaking lower (or higher, depending on the person) than they really are.

thats normal it often happens that´s because u r expecting to do better then u do and when u sing in ur head u don´t need the volume to sing out loud and when u use more volume ur voice changes

It can also b because when u sing or talk to ur self u really don´t hear ur voice u just sing it

The voice sounds different to ourselves than to the others

When we are happy, we sing loud. You probably feel great when you are singing, so you sound great to yourself. Others may not think you sound great, but don't mind them. Just keep singing!

I don't know, but even when I talk to myself, if I hear it on tape I sound SOOO different to what I did in my head! I think its a cruel trick that nature plays to encourage us to talk / sing to our friends and enjoy it even though we sound like shXt, ha ha!!
