I know both of these fighters and I helped Earnie Shavers get ready to fight Ali. in 1978 . Mike Tyson wins this fight by knock out in side of 6 rounds. Tyson would be to fast and Earnie did not move a lot he would just come right at you not good if your fighting Iron Mike

Smitty is usually right, but I disagree with him for the 2nd (possibly 3rd) time tonight... Holyfield KOed Tyson twice now? When did that happen I missed it. Secondly, how often does Tyson go down AND THEN recover to win the fight? Beyond me as to when that happened. Lastly, Shavers had a bad chin (see Quarry) but if Shavers knocks Tyson down, he has the fight, stick a fork in Tyson... he's done at that point. Tyson is "bad" and "tough". But he is a bully... not a fighter. He has no heart, Shavers did. Tough fight, I'd say 2 out of 3 times Tyson, depending on the day and their ages... Tyson just gives up too much.

Shavers - W 74 (KO's 68) TF 89 - W pct 83% - KO pct 76% - wins over Ellis, Young, Norton and Bugner - KO'ed by Holmes, Cobb, Lyle, J. Quarry and 3 other fighters
Tyson - W 50 (KO's 43) TF 58 - W pct 86% - KO pct 74% - wins over Berbick, Spinks, Holmes, Thomas, Biggs, Williams, Ruddock, Smith and Bruno - KO'ed by Holyfield[2], Lewis and Douglas (average fighter) - #16 ranked puncher - #72 ranked fighter
Tyson did not have Frazier's will or heart
This bout will be an awesome slug fest. Both fighters will hit the canvas more than once. It is a hard fight to call because Shavers will not be afraid of Tyson and Tyson will be coming forward. This is fight that will severly test Tyson's chin. Tyson by a 10th rd KO.

why are you hating on Tyson?Earnie Shavers was nothing more than a journeyman.Nice fighter, but certainly nowhere near having the capability to stay with Tyson(or any other champion, for that matter)Tyson knocks him out in short order.

not to bash earnie shavers here as he was a dangerous puncher and made for exciting fights but 2 things i think 1) he never had a prime and i know that sounds strange but think about it his prime was prob his 1rst rd ko of ken norton and he went on to lose to holmes in his next fight and was virtually finished as a legitimate threat after that bout. and 2) if quarry takes out shavers in 1 rd then no way shavers sees rd 2 with iron mike.

Why people ask these type of questions is beyond me. Tyson was unstoppable when he first came up . I don't care if there were two guys in there for him to fight , he would have destroyed them both. He was a freakin' animal, did you see the terror on Spink's face?
