at the context or hidden meaning? One fine example: Love your enemy( no if no but, plain and simple, applies in every situation).

Or was truth really plain and simple, only people make it difficult to understand?

You have hit the nail on the head. The truth is plain and simple and so is the Bible. It is the pride and arrogance of mankind that has confused everything. This is what happens when you try to allegorize that which is obviously to be taken literal. God calls us sheep, and I believe that's because sheep are the dumbest animals on Earth and are completely lost without their shepherd. God knows our hearts and minds, He has commanded us to read and meditate on His Word day and night. Does it stand to reason, then, that He would make the Bible impossible to understand by mankind? No! He made His Word plain, simple and direct. If one desires to receive spiritual insight and strength from the Bible, then he/she needs the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit.

I understand what you are saying...I really do. The truth is plain and simple. God's word is open and truthful. It is important to note that the Holy Spirit reveals His truth to a believer, in His time. A perfect example is the question, "Is Jesus Christ, God?" Why do some "Christians", not believe this? It is written on practically every other page of the bible. A true believer knows that Jesus is God only by the Holy Spirit. This very basic, simple, fact eludes some that call themselves Christian. Why? This truth is plain and simple. I believe the answer is that God gives a person truth as he/she can handle it.

In short, there aren't any hidden meanings in God's word. It is people that try to complicate and twist scripture. Some things that may seem simple for you to understand are great challenges to others....and there is good reason for this.

In addition, many people quote scripture out of context. That is another problem that leads to much confusion.

Good questions! I love this.

Pontius Pilate asked what truth was at John 18:38, but his tone was that of a cynic, as though to say that there's no such thing.

Note what the Bible says:
John 17: 17 "Your word is truth."
Jeremiah 10:23 "It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step."
2 Corinthians 4:3,4 "If, now, the good news we declare is in fact veiled, it is veiled among those who are perishing, among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through."

The Gospel is so simple, a child can understand it. The world makes it too complex- it is like they do not "buy" that it is that simple...so they look for excuses to not believe it.

We all sinned against God.
God loved us so he sent Jesus to die on the cross for us- so those who believe would be set free and given eternal life with Him- for the wages of sin is death- Romans 6:23
There is only forgiveness through the shedding of blood as it says in Acts- so that is why Jesus had to die. We are saved through His blood by HIS grace- not of works, but by simple believing in Him and repenting of sin- See Ephesians 2:8
Sin deserves punishment, those who reject our Savior Jesus Christ will be cast into Hell- those who believe will be given the Kingdom of God....it is very simple to understand- but I believe it has to "click" with a person before they "get it" and it is only through the Holy Spirit that one will receive the message of Jesus Christ. Praise God that He softens hearts everyday through the hearing of the gospel- "For faith comes from hearing and hearing the word of God" Romans 10:17

Because people will always try to find an out for themselves, a way to get around the truth so they can ease their conscience. They are law-lovers, called Pharisees at one time.

We do need to seek to understand correctly. Many take this truth to mean be good friends with your enemy but this is forbidden in the scriptures. It means to do good to them like feed if hungry, of clothe if naked but not to be unequally yoked.
