Sweet sherry. Sherry is a fortified wine from the Jerez region of Spain; it's available in sweet (also sometimes called 'cream') and dry (fino, amontillado, and manzanilla) varieties.

Sweet sherry is sipped with, or as, a dessert; it's also used in desserts, such as English trifle (pound cake, sprinkled with sherry then layered with fruit or jam and vanilla pudding).
