Most Islamic scholars (if not all) contend that Islamic law is the natural intended way, which is why Muslims all over the world, demand their laws be applied, no matter what the existing law of the land may be.

Quran 4:34 "(as to those muslimah’s) on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them;" http://cwis.usc.edu/dept/msa/quran/004.qmt.html

Do you think the right of a physically stronger man to beat a physically weaker woman is a part of natural law? Is it ethnocentric and insensitive to critisize this part of Islam?

NOTE TO NON-MUSLIMS: My personal experience is, that despite the fact that 99.999% of the Muslim world accepts this "beating" doctrine, some Muslims will try to lie about its very existance even when I directly cite it and link to the most popular website in the Islamic community.

LIARS TEST: See if any Muslim who denies the authenticity of this aya will also agree that any religion which commands men to beat woman for any reason, must be false.

See why I word it this way? You almost certainly wont find a Muslim agree and say "Yes, of course, any religion which commands the beating of woman for any reason, must be false".

Why wont they type this? Cause they know the Quran does command this and dont want to committ blashmephy by contradicting it. Get it?

Kimo: if those words changed the context, why didnt you just say what those words were and specifically what I am missing here? Is it because those words make no real change, but you want to create the illusion that it might and i left something major out?

When I hear the phrase "out of context", I assume I am dealing with a very dumb person until theres some explaination as to how.

Look2: I dont blame you. Thats whats amzing about Islam. When you first see the real Quran for yourself, and other elements of Islam, its very normal to think "no way this is right. it must be a distortion. he must be a hater with an agenda".

i'm going to answer you presuming which you had no undesirable intentions and which you have been astonished analyzing what you pronounced in an Islamic website. First, the credibility of what you examine and its objective is relatively doubted so i'm going to purely inform you what the undertaking is approximately. 2d, there is not any longer one faith that has regulations for virgins and non-virgins, regulations or training are for all (some have extra situations for females - all females) 0.33, Islam (like various religions) stands against adultery and sexual relationships without marriage. Adultery has a punishment it relatively is pronounced in the Qur'an and its no longer stoning or demise. the assumption of stoning is seen a regulation for a girl who commits adultery on an identical time as she is married (dishonest on her husband), yet its debatable and quite some Muslim pupils have proved that this regulation has no genuine root in Islamic rules and that its punishment is slightly distinctive than an single lady and it comprises keeping her in custody (imprisoned or domicile constrained). ultimately, all rules regarding punishing an adulterer or an adulteress won't be utilized different than if there are 4 male witnesses or a sparkling confession of the two facets. i wish the assumption is clarified now. playstation : Islam does not evaluate people to animals in any respect

I think maybe instead of slamming others beliefs. You should reread the Bible. The very first book Genesis will do!
In just the first few pages Adam is told it is alright to "lord it over his wife".The loving God tells Adam he has decided to make man always be the enemy of woman.
Brother kills brother.Anyone who harms the murderer will be cursed seven fold.So murder of your brother is okay with the God of the Bible!
God, gets angry and all earths ,people and animals etc must die, except one family.
Noah gets drunk and embarrasses his family and then thru God curses them for it.Must have been some party?
Everyone understands each other and is getting along just fine,God gets upset about it and gives birth to prejudice and racism.
Abraham uses his wife to protect himself and then lets her be used sexually by other men.
At this point I am only up to page 16,I will not go on further although this is not even the tip of the morally unacceptable behaviours that are found acceptable in the Bible.
I am not condemning the Bible or the right of anyone to believe what they want,so long as it's with the courage of their convictions.
It is to be remembered both were written in another time.So therefore it its inappropriate to apply the stories literally to these times. The interpretation can also be dangerous, and is the root of a lot of injustice and in fact evil.

heres the verse you have:

An-Nisa (The Women)

4:34 MEN SHALL take full care of women with the bounties which God has bestowed more abundantly on the former than on the latter, [42] and with what they may spend out of their possessions. And the righteous women are the truly devout ones, who guard the intimacy which God has [ordained to be] guarded. [43] And as for those women whose ill-will [44] you have reason to fear, admonish them [first]; then leave them alone in bed; then beat them; [45] and if thereupon they pay you heed, do not seek to harm them. Behold, God is indeed most high, great!

NOTE 44: The term nushuz (lit., "rebellion"- here rendered as "ill-will") comprises every kind of deliberate bad behaviour of a wife towards her husband or of a husband towards his wife, including what is nowadays described as "mental cruelty"; with reference to the husband, it also denotes "ill-treatment", in the physical sense, of his wife (cf. verse 128 of this surah). In this context, a wife's "ill-will" implies a deliberate, persistent breach of her marital obligations.(Quran Ref: 4:34 )

"desertion" in the verse you show means "rebellion" and "bad behavior". in these days if a muslims wift does this, he'll probably divorce her

Muslimah is a very intelligent person of the muslim faith, and since she is a woman who obviously knows her koran, I will await her response. I'm sure you've probably distorted the verse, much the same as people do when quoting the Bible to poke fun at a particular group of people.

If you consider a tapping with a twig used as a toothbrush so lightly it does not even leave the slightest mark a beating, well then I guess it does. But! If you have any common sense to you, you'll see the rediculousness of your question pretty soon.

So I wonder what YOU have to say about when the Prophet (saws) said "How does anyone of you beat his wife as he beats the stallion camel and then embrace her?” What about when the Prophet (saws) said to his followers that the BEST of you are those that are BEST to their wives?

No. Its not talking about brutal beatings.

[4:34] The men are made responsible for the women,** and GOD has endowed them with certain qualities, and made them the bread earners. The righteous women will cheerfully accept this arrangement, since it is GOD's commandment, and honor their husbands during their absence. If you experience rebellion from the women, you shall first talk to them, then (you may use negative incentives like) deserting them in bed, then you may (as a last alternative) beat them lightly. If they obey you, you are not permitted to transgress against them. GOD is Most High, Supreme.

Is that a Qur'aanic verse that you made up or something?

1O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from him (Adam) He created his wife (Hawwa (Eve)), and from them both He created many men and women and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever an AllWatcher over you.
2 And give unto orphans their property and do not exchange (your) bad things for (their) good ones; and devour not their substance (by adding it) to your substance. Surely, this is a great sin.
3 And if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly with the orphangirls, then marry (other) women of your choice, two or three, or four but if you fear that you shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one or (the captives and the slaves) that your right hands possess. That is nearer to prevent you from doing injustice.
4 And give to the women (whom you marry) their Mahr (obligatory bridal money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage) with a good heart, but if they, of their own good pleasure, remit any part of it to you, take it, and enjoy it without fear of any harm (as Allah has made it lawful).
5 And give not unto the foolish your property which Allah has made a means of support for you, but feed and clothe them therewith, and speak to them words of kindness and justice.
6 And try orphans (as regards their intelligence) until they reach the age of marriage; if then you find sound judgement in them, release their property to them, but consume it not wastefully, and hastily fearing that they should grow up, and whoever amongst guardians is rich, he should take no wages, but if he is poor, let him have for himself what is just and reasonable (according to his work). And when you release their property to them, take witness in their presence; and Allah is AllSufficient in taking account.
[Surah an-Nisa 4:1-6]

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful

4:34] Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. Therefore the righteous women are devoutly obedient, and guard in (the husband's) absence what Allah would have them guard. As to those women on whose part ye fear disloyalty and ill-conduct, admonish them (first), (Next), refuse to share their beds, (And last) beat them (lightly); but if they return to obedience, seek not against them Means (of annoyance): For Allah is Most High, great (above you all).

In verse 228 of al-Baqarah Allah says that women also have rights as men have but men are a degree above women. In this verse it is again stated that men are the guardians of women as He has made the male sex excel over the female sex. This is the will of an all-wise and almighty Lord.

The equality before law should not be confused with the equality of the complex of subjective and original qualities. Even the messengers and prophets of Allah are not equal in status due to their innate and endowed essence. "We have made some of these messengers to excel others", says the almighty , Allah in verse 253 of al-Baqarah.

Qanitatun means devoted to Allah, therefore, a woman who obeys Allah must accept His command and acknowledge her duties she has to perform to please her husband who spends of his wealth to provide for her. She must also watch over his property and his interests, attend to his needs, and above all guard her chastity.

In case a perverse woman (wife) refuses to mend her ways (very common among the low-bred and ignorant women of easy virtue) then the husband can admonish her, and even stop sleeping with her, but if the corrective measures fail to refine her, he can take harsher steps to make her qanitatun (devoted and obedient to Allah).

To understand the true purport of this verse, it is essential to keep in mind verse 21 of al-Rum.

"Another of His signs is that He created out of you mates of your own kind so that you may find repose in them, and has instilled (ordained) love and kindness between you. Verily there are signs in this for those who reflect."

In many verses it has been ordained to, treat women with kindness and to speak to them gently.

The Holy Prophet said:

"Never beat Allah's handmaidens."

"The best of you is he who is kind to his wife."

There is not a single event of wife-beating or child-abuse in the lives of the Holy Prophet and his holy Ahl ul Bayt.
