I went to the doctor with a mild case of anxiety and at first he gave me xanax(.25mg) which pretty much did the trick. Once I finished the prescription I was fine for a little bit until the panic returned. I went back and he decided to prescribe me Lexapro(10mg). I took a pill and a half and this has to be the worst product on earth. I’ve already experienced every side effect from supper depression to muscle twitches to sexual problems, diarrhea to headaches the list goes on. I decided to go cold turkey after 2 days on it. my question is how long will these symptoms last? cause I’ve been off it for 2 days now and I feel worse then ever, like im a depressed zombie.(ps. I’ve never been depressed in my life until I took this pill) please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your quick replies. As far as depression, I’ve never experienced symptoms until now. With xanax I was perfect but because of its highly addictive nature, my doctor refuses to give it to me. I feel a little better, but I don’t know how long I will last. Im still a little space out. For the minor depression im getting I’ve been taking st johns wort. Any suggestions????

Don't take anymore. See your doctor immediately. The first medication he gave you was a good one, it is just habit forming. There are so many anti-depressants out there now, you may need to try various ones until you find the right one. For more information on Lexapro, log on to WebMD and type the drug name.

I have had anxiety for over 20 years. I've also been prescribed almost every antidepressand and SSRI that I know of - other than Lexapro. I can tell you that it does take a couple of weeks or more for these type of meds to start helping you. When you first start taking them the side effects seem bad but they gradually weaken and wear off in a week or two. I think maybe you should have been started out on a lower dosage of the Lexapro and gradually worked your way up higher. Doctors usually do it like that. Xanax is the best thing I have ever taken for anxiety also. It helps so much and it works fast too. If you are not comfortable with taking the Lexapro I dont blame you for stopping it. The things you are feeling now should be gone in a couple of days.
Good luck to you. I hope you still have the xanax prescription?

I can totally relate to that. I'm nineteen and my anxiety started when I was around five. I didn't start taking medication for it until I was around 16/17 and it was Paxil CR for what the doctor told me was "Just social anxiety." because I didn't talk to people. Everything seemed fine, but I became more anxious. Fingers were tapping, leg wouldn't be still. I went back, he added Klonopin. Let's just say I became a *****. He took me off both and put me on Celexa which made my life a living h3ll. So I stopped all together for about a year until I had the worst panic attack of my life which caused me to go to the ER. The doctor put me on 10mg of Lexapro and .5mg of Zanax. Didn't do a damn thing, and I was eating the Zanax like candy (he was giving me 60 of them) and asked if I was selling them. So I went back and told the doctor that I didn't think the Lexapro was working so he told me to take two. Now everytime I wake up in the morning I take two lexapro at the same time so I get an equal dose of 20mg from it and one Zanax which I probably don't need anymore and I've been fine. Most medicines are differen't for other people. Me taking the 20mg is the highest it goes and I have to try it for a month to see if it helps, and it has. Talk to your doctor about different options with the medication or others.

I am 17 and have taken Lexapro for little over 6 months. I have decreased sexual climaxes and if I skip a pill I cry over nothing. For example I forgot a pill and my boyfriend looked at me and I balled my eyes out for an hour. I actually think I am a little better than I was without then because now I don feel like death anymore. My mom thinks I dont need them but I think I do. I work 7 days a week, a full time firefighter, and a 24 boyfriend. I have muscle spasms and some headaches and definite weight gain not to mention it is screwing up my menstrual cycle. I only recommend it if you feel like you want to die alot and after my pap died i went on the pills so ya its been a year almost and just wish I could up my meds from 10mg. Lets see I have gone from a 38C to a 40D from the pills and still very emotional and was never able to cry much like I did once every 4 months now its every month.

I have taken Lexapro, it is horrible and didn't work for me either, it made me sleepy all the time and made me twitch. My doctor gave me that because he doesn't know how to give the right medication. I suggest getting a NEW doctor. I take wellbutrin, trileptal, topamax, prozac & zyprexa as needed. These all work for me, they are great medications. Consult your doctor IMMEDIATELY

First, I hope you've kept your doctor updated as to how you're feeling and whether or not you're taking any medication and dosages. If not, call him or her ASAP.

Lexapro did me no good either. I had my first seizure from it. However, I would have stopped taking it too if I were you. Good luck.
