A Poem my Mother wrote when she was 85 and deep into Alzheimer's

My Life

Caught in this whirlwind of life,
wriggling and turning in strife,
darting and daring, starting and staring
no more caring
moaning in the sunshine
sleeping in the rain
never did I think I'd be feeling so much pain,
even bachelor buttons were never this blue,
The rainbow to me is only confusion,
the stars out at night are just dissolution,
though bedraggled and degraded
entangled as I am,
wont give up this life easy,
because I'm who I am.

Okay, here's something I found among my late mom's notes after her passing. It was written in her own handwriting:

Live & Learn / Pass It On

1. I've learned that I should make the little decisions with my head and the big decisions with my heart.

2. I've learned that you can get by on charm for about fifteen minutes. After that you'd better know something.

3. I've learned that to love and be loved is the greatest joy in the world.

4. I've learned that you shouldn't expect life's very best if you are not giving it your best.

5. I've learned that deciding whom you marry is the most important decision you'll ever make.

6. I've learned that if you depend on others to make you happy you'll be endlessly disappointed.

7. I've learned that you should keep your promises no matter what.

8. I've learned that you should fill your life with experiences, not excuses.

9. I've learned that you can never have too many friends.

10. I've learned that if you wait until all conditions are perfect before you act, you'll never act.

11. I've learned that I cannot expect others to solve my problems.

12. I've learned that if you care, it shows.

13. I've learned that it's just as important to forget a wrong as it is to remember a kindness.

14. I've learned that if love will break your heart, it's worth it.

15. I've learned that you should treasure your children for what they are and not for what you want them to be.

16. I've learned that it's never too late to improve yourself.

17. I've learned that a good feeling gets even better when it is shared.

18. I've learned that if love isn't taught in the home, it is difficult to learn it anywhere.

19. I've learned that it's better not to wait for a crisis to discover what's important in your life.

20. I've learned that trust is the most important factor in both personal and professional relationships.

21. I've learned that you shouldn't do anything that wouldn't make your mother proud.

22. I've learned that I still have a lot to learn.

Hi. Something I was thinking about today concerning spiritual experiences people have. A true spiritual experience cannot be explained in words, so when the person tries to tell what happened to them, others make fun of it and deny anything happened because they don't understand and haven't experienced it. So I vowed to never denigrate another's spiritual experience, no matter how odd it sounds to me.

This was given to me in a card, and I framed it, it meant so much to me. Maybe all of you will get something from it, too...

When you come to the edge
of all the light you know,
and are about to step off
into the darkness of the unknown,
faith is knowing one of two things
will happen: There will be
something solid to stand on
or you will be taught how to fly!

Destiny is not a matter of chance. It is a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for. It is a thing to be achieved.
