I have not used anything different to when i first got her and brought her home. how do i get her to do it in the tray again? she is an indoor cat and never goes outside.

Try getting a second litter box and see if she will use that to poo in -- cats are strange creature. She may have decided that she doesn't want to do both in the same box.

Make sure to keep the box clean --change it more often to see if that could be it.

Also -- once she has "gone" somewhere else, the odor (even if YOU can't smell it) may tell her that is the spot to go. Try cleaning with one of those cleaners for pet odors

Are you sure the litter has not changed ? you may not have changed it but the Company could have made it "New and Approved". When they did this a while back I had to try 2 new litters to find one my cat would use. She did not like the dust when she clawed at it
Ps you haven't moved her food or water to close to it have you ? that could also casue her to want to keep the area cleaner.
Also try to scrub the tray clean with just water. cleaner can add a scent even if you can not smell it
Did you change the way you cleaned the carpets ? I changed and used oxy clean in my laundry and I have no reason why but my cat would poo in any article of clothes she could get to if I used oxy clean on it

After buying our now 18 month old cat, we named princess-cookie, she did have little mis-haps upon occassions, just like we did when we were young, if you can remember hahaha, anyhow, as soon as we got her, we placed the food bowls, cat litter tray etc in a place that wouldnt be disturbed by us or visiting guests, dont know if it was pure luck or not, but after she weed in a place outside of the litter tray, we soaked it up and dripped it into the cat litter, hence giving her smell, in the tray and litter, and from that day, she has had no accidents, and always used the litter tray. food for thought, in the places ur kitten is peeing and pooing, put white sprite/ or orange peel, as this deters them from the area as there dont like the smell. Our cat has never been outside either, just like urs, so we know the importance of the house not smelling of wee wee etc, it might even help, if you kept him/her in the same room as the tray etc, for a few days, till there got used to what was there for him/her to eat from and do the toilet bussiness in, some cats are shy when it comes to doing what comes natraul, but think trying the method of placing some of the poo/wee into the tray, might just do the trick, its easyier training yound pets rather than older ones. when we got ours she was just 4 weeks old, thankfully just showing her etc was all she needed, and shes been great since.

Did you recently switch brands of litter? If so, she may not like the new brand. Try something else. The other thing is that the litter box may not be clean enough for her. Some cats don't even like 1 remnant of anything in their box. They want it clean. They are fastidious about cleanliness. Try scooping it more often and cleaning it completely by putting fresh litter in the box every 7-10 days. The last thing is that it may not be in a private enough location for her (too much traffic around her) to concentrate.

Poor cat! And you must wipe that evil smile off your face and remove the planks of wood from her cat flap. Are you sure she is an indoor cat? Are there any claw marks on those planks? Please remove those planks and let her out.

Just joking! You must train her or pick her up and place her on her tray. She'll get the message. If she doesn't, buy a vicious dog. As soon as the cat sees the dog, it'll jump through the window and poo lots outside. Never fails!!

On a serious note, visit any cat websites (you - not your cat) and they will give you great tips on dealing with your problem or any similar issues.

Good luck!

If she has physical problems, she might not use the litter pan. You can visit the vet to see if something is wrong. If the litter pans have changed and/or the litter has changed, she might be hesitant with the new stuff. Cats are creatures of habit and can be very territorial over their litter pans.

Also a new addition to the household, 4 legged or 2 legged, could really upset her ..... cats sometimes will attempt to control their humans by using bathroom habits. To show their upset or that something is wrong.

She was using it but stopped?

If you have changed NOTHING about it, maybe it's not as clean as it used to be. Try washing it out thoroughly, disinfecting it with some bleach, and letting it dry outside after rinsing once more with soap and water.

Some cats are really picky about that.

Another way a lot of cats are picky is ... some want different boxes for #1 and #2. If washing the box doesn't work try getting another and putting it in a different area.

If neither of those works it might be a health problem. You should take her to the vet and tell him/her what's going on and how long ago it started. If she has some kind of injury or infection that makes it hurt to do #2, of course she associates that with the box and won't go in it.

Cats can change their likes and dislikes overnight, it seems. My cat used to need two boxes (one for each, like I said yours might want) but suddenly one was always empty. She started using just one. So try those things and call your vet to get an appointment. If they don't work you can take her in and he'll run tests on that end of her.

your cat may be sick or angry about something. one thing you can try is to put another litter box in the house where she has ben pooing (if she goes in differant places in one room than put it by the door of that room, if she has two favorite places in the house put one at each) i know it is groose to have littler boxes all around the house but it works, you can by disposable ones from jewel! then if she goes on the floor after that and you catch her take her to the nearest litter box and put her in it. if after a week that doesn't work take her in to the vet and have her checked out she could have worms!!! but 90% off the time it is behavioral so go over all your activity changes and see whats differant lately. good luck
