Leave his little butt out there till he pees! Then praise him and tell him how good he is. He'll pick up on it pretty quick.

Take him for a walk.

Our dogs LOVE eating the snow, too. Think about it-what a treat for your puppy, and she learned something cool! Let him run around and snack on the snow, then take him for a walk and teach him to potty somewhere besides your yard. Then your yard will be preserved for snow-snacking (and your snow will remain white), and the exercise is good for both of you.

Good luck with your beagle.

I used to live in a COLD snowy place and I have a beagle ... I crate trained him and just kept to it.When he got a little older and I thought he was potty trained I stopped with the crate. then it snowed and he started playing in snow and peeing in the house. So I went back to the crate for about a week and never have had a "accident" again. Also when he does go give positive enforcement treats, kisses and tell him/her how GOOD they are :)

Keep him outside until he goes potty outside. You may have to do that for a while but I think he will get used to the snow and resume "going" outside. Also, like a child let him have his fun.

Do you have yard space? If so, it might be easier to get an insulated dog igloo and a good collar and chain. Put some bedding in the igloo and chain the pup out for a while. It won't hurt him, as long as you don't leave him out there for hours, and he will get the message that outside is "duty" time and not time for playing with humans in snow.
