what's legal is not always just and what's just is not always legal.

a long time ago, slavery was legal, but not just. in that scenario, it was justified for a slave to break the law and escape in order to save his/her own life. and everyone was full convinced that slavery was the right way to go

could it be like this now?

is it not true that a just means is always justified by a just end?

in other words, if the end result is just (to save one's own life) isn't the means (breaking the law) justified?

i'm not saying ANYTHING. i'm just letting your mind wander here...\

agree or disagree as you please

To save ones own life I would think that the will to survive would take over and you would do what ever is necessary to do just that. But to break the law just to improve ones own standard of living is no different than robbing a bank or selling drugs on the street corner.

,Your analogy, Dear Sergio, is just goofy! Slavery was an internal tradgey that took a civil war to make right. Illegal immigration is an external tradgey, that has morphed into a demand to come across our borders at will! Now the illegals demand that our policies be changed, and in so doing, have raised the ire of the American public. We do not wish to deal with this, should NOT have to deal with this. But when a show of solidarity gave us a view of the number of illegals in this country, we were forced to act. Pleading a search for better living conditions, just won't cut it!! March on Mexico City, force your OWN government to accomodate you, but don't get in our faces and demands any rights, because you have none in this country.

WOW. That is one heck of a question! I dont think there is one answer that applies to all cases here..Except maybe, the law ends and your rights stop, where my rights start and my nose begins.

I dunno..That brings to mind topics like gambling. Gambling is illegal (well for now).

So lets say me and some of my Friends get together and play poker for money. We are all there by agreement. We are all grown men. Who are we hurting? Ourselves? Even if I had a problem gambling, it's my business. No one has the right to tell me what I can and cant do, as long as I am not hurting another person.

The other side of that coin is maybe I do have a gambling problem. There is enough instances of people who have gambling problems committing OTHER crimes to subsidize their gambling that there are now laws against it. IF i happen to be married, have a gambling problem, what happens if I spend all of my money on gambling, and my family has no money for food? We would likely rely on the county to bail us out, placing a burden on others..

Or prostitution. What if I engage in that activity? WHO is it hurting?

Another argument is I could help spread HIV and my money most likely would go to the drug industry..

That is an interesting question. I like it. I wish I could vote that as Best Question.

Like stealing bread to feed a starving family?

I agree, sometimes the problem is with the people who write the laws. they put a lot of their own bias opinion in the laws they create.

Luckily we live in a Democratic society where people know the difference between right and wrong...?

So you are saying that it is completely reasonable to steal to improve the quality of your life? Would it then be legal for me to go and steal money and property because I want to improve the quality of my life? I believe you and the illegals are still trying to justify doing something illegal. Your example of slavery is non-sense since there is no correlation between slavery and illegal immigrations.

Here is a little lesson in common sense:
1. Slavery and illegal immigration have nothing in common.
2. The Berlin wall and the border fence have nothing in common.
3. Mexican illegal immigrants and saving ones life have nothing in common.

Laws are not always created to help anyone. Not all laws are written by just people. I agree.

Exactly...you are not saying anything. Especially since there is no connection whatsoever between illegal immigrants and slavery.
