If it's been more than a day, definitely call the doctor for some advice. Be sure he gets plenty of fluids (water is best, pedialyte if he'll drink it).
Cooked rice will bind you, but not Minute Rice or Success (r). Use real white rice, and follow the cooking directions, except do not rinse it too much, because it's the starch that binds your stool. I'd say rinse it once with cold water, then cook it. Cooking in the microwave is fine, just use a bowl that's deep enough to minimize the spillage of water as it boils over (yucky mess).
Stay away from milk and milk products (except cheese, which will also bind .. but be careful).
Good luck... I hope he feels better.

He needs to see a doctor to rule out c. difficile, a parasite that can cause severe diarrhea. He could be suffering from IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) also. There are prescription medications that can help with that. Avoid spicy, greasy foods. Try giving him only clear liquids (apple juice, 7 up, etc. that you can see t hrough) for 24 hours, then start him on applesauce, rice, bananas and toast. It is called the BRAT diet. He should eat that for at least 24 hours, then gradually reintroduce regular foods. If it doesn't go away, be sure he sees a doctor. If he is having severe watery stools, it could also mean a bowel obstruction, which is a life-threatening condition that could require surgery to correct.

hi - it would depend on how long he has diarrhea and what is causing it.See your doc to determine cause as he may have a serious illness causing this SYMTOM>i suggest slippery elm bark either in a tea or tablet form, it is good for constipation as well- it lines the gut but will not solve the cause- just gives a little relief and helps in the healing process. Health food shops will sell you something to clog up the systom. He may have irritable bowel, an infection, liver disordwe or cancer get a diagnose first, if it is something he ate or bacteria , it will pass- definitelyno milk or fat in diet. mum use to give us grated green apples and flat lemonade- it seemed to work. -good luck

If it's not responding to over-the-counter meds, then it could be serious. If it goes on for more than a couple days, see a doctor! In the meantime, have him drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

Poor kid. I would suggest you look into celiac. The uncontrollable diarrhea is a big sign of it.
Here's the National Institutes of Health website on celiac -
http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/celiac/
If that starts sounding familiar, here are a couple of message boards for people with celiac and other forms of gluten intolerance -
www.glutenfreeforum.com

I hope he starts feeling better soon.

poor kid. things like popcorn, crackers, and toast could be good. Myself I usually go for cheese. plain american. then when I feel a little better I drink flat pepsi for the sweet. Keeps you built up a bit. cheese is protein too. You can buy kaopectate tabs. they seem pretty good. try to avoid as much food as possible. but since you do have to eat, cheese and popcorn are supposed to be binding. rice too. good luck.

what comes to my mind : strong black tea without sugar, but I would say go to the Doc. and have him checked out. Because you don't want him to get dehydrated he need lots of fluid in his body.
