I did that last year! I decided to focus on Magazines and Advertising and my final piece was a series of magazine covers combining portraiture and text.
Apart from looking at thousands of magazines and their photographers, I also researched Barbara Kruger and Andy Warhol.

Karel Teige a czech artist who worked with broken alphabets and photos, she has a good website that can be found via www.czechmania.com also look at a design group called concrete poetry, they arrange text so that it looks like the thing they have writen about, eg they did a poem about a triangle and arranged the text in the shape of a triangle
