Sorry for the silly question but I really want to know. Even though I am a Buddhist and I know I am supposed to feel compassion for them, I kill them. What do you guys do about them...

I am agnostic with Buddhist leanings.
I do mindful meditation....in everyday activities.
A few years ago I was about to step on spider and I caught what was going through my mind at that moment.
I try not to kill anything out of some kind of reflex.
but I am realistic.
Humans need to eat.
Cockroaches spread disease.
Gotta kill them.
sorry.

I'm not Buddhist, but I don't like to kill anything (including insects). Usually, I try to catch flies, etc. and turn them loose outside. But cockroaches I usually kill.

Cockroaches carry germs and diseases and they get into everything (even food). I do hate killing them, I realize they mean me no harm, and all they are doing is looking for food. But I'm unable to catch them and it's winter now and they would die outdoors anyway, so I do go ahead and kill them.

As a Buddhist, you are never to kill living beings, no matter how disgusting they may be. I am a Buddhist and I am terrified of spiders- a complete arachnophobic, but, I do not kill them, I trap and let them free outside. The process is gross, but it's better than killing them.

As a Buddhist I was in this dilemma until one day it dawned on me that sometime the act might be improper but the result is proper!Once, there was a big hornet nest in front of my house and I didn't disturb it.It grew into a very big nest;then the kids in the neigbourhood started to throw stone at it.Imagine what happened!
Had to burn the nest!Killing the hornet was not very nice;but when I burnt the nest it was done with the good intention of preventing more harm to others.By killing the hornet bad karma was created but the good karma created in preventing harm to others outweight the bad!

yeah, i don't kill them. the only thing i can justify killing are parasites. and i guess if i had an infestation in my home of cockroaches, then i would kill them with chemicals or something. I always feel kind of sad when i have to do something like that. but I think it is the best decision, so i go on.

The householder's life is full of dust, apologize to them and warn them before you use the chemicals, then say prayers for them afterword.

And it is written "God gave man dominion over all creatures of earth"... I kill them when I see them, and I don't have guilt for it.. Peace be with you all your days..
