You *can* use whatever you want. But, you *should* only use a pet nail clipper. Human nail clippers and scissors can cause the nail to shred, split, and break incorrectly. Spend the $4.00 and buy a doggie nail clipper from Petsmart or Target.

You have to be VERY careful when cutting your dogs nails. Their nail bed is much longer than a human nailbed, and you can really injur them if you cut too far down. Do NOT use scissors or a human nail clipper. You can cut an arterie or something. The best thing to do is to have their nails clipped professionally

No, you need a special nail clipper made for dogs. You can not use scissors. Remember not to cut the red part of thr nail, called the quick, because it will hurt the dog and it will bleed.

You can use a regular nail clipper, but it's a lot harder than using animal clippers, and since it takes longer, it's less pleasant for you and your dog. Just stay away from the fleshy core of the nail.
Scissors? Sounds like trouble. Scissors aren't designed to cut through thick, stiff objects like dog claws, and I think they'd just slide the claw forward. Stick with toenail clippers.

No, you need to buy a specialized clipper. Fortunately they cost between $5 and $15, depending on the size (smaller dogs vs. larger dogs).

I doubt nail clippers would work on a larger dog, and scissors might risk splitting the nail.

You can get clippers even in most grocery stores in the pet aisle, at Wal-Mart, and definitely at a pet store.

Well, it really depends on the kind of nails your dog has. You could hurt the dog if you are unable to complete the cut. It is better to use dog nail clippers. Or a dremel grinder with a stone tip; this will cauterize so there should be no bleeding.
