There are several ways.
1) Going to college for photography could get you some chances not otherwise available. You could get internships while going to school, and putting your college photography experience could give you the advantage you need while applying for jobs, freelancing, etc. You could look on craigslist, monster.com, magazines, newspapers, etc.
2) What I personally have done, is networking through my current job. A lot of places of business will need some sort of photography work done at some point (events, promotions, etc). Make sure everyone knows you do photography and have examples of your work ready. When someone needs something, they will come to you. This would also work with friends (weddings and other events).
3) Submit, submit, submit. Look for photography contests, stock photography applications, anything. Just put your photographs out there and see if you get any leads or if anyone responds.
Good luck!

Hello there, please check out: http://www.istockphoto.com/index.php &
http://www.shutterstock.com/
This isn't B.S., I read about these two sites via an article in either Entrepreneur or Money Magazine...can't remember which one.
All you have to do is open an account (it's free, though they charge a dollar or a penny, I can't remember to verify your bank account), then all you do is upload all of your photographs onto the site. Other users can then download your photos to use in print ads, magazine ads, internet etc, and each time your photos are downloaded you're paid between .75 to $1 It doesn't soun like much but if you upload over 500 pics and they are downloaded a few hundred times per month...you've got extra money in the bank.
You can use this as a stepping stone to get into the photography world. Users of istock and shutterstock range from pure amateurs to professional photographers and who knows, you may see your own pics in magazines, on the internet...it's endless!!!
The best of luck!

Go college,or if you have some good photos
(size doesn't matter) drop,or send them to a news agency asking for work experience.Or if
you have a decent camera.Walk or hang about
where people in the public eye are and snap. But
always keep the rights,so if you sell any to an
agency and they sell them on,you get a percentage.

Most of the local photography studios don't require you to have a degree, but it does help. Just start applying and see if you get a call. You could ask before you apply if the require schooling.

i would say go to one of the best art schools for photography, and you can get contacts by your teachers that way. or do alot of free lance work and build up your portfolio. you can do senior portraits or weddings or family photos for a price you think is good enough for your services. just be sure to be fair.
