Constantine's Council of Nicea. Look it up on Google. After that... King James had his way with it.

There were many different interpretations of Jesus' message. The early church authorities took the most popular interpretation and made it into the 4 gospels. They included Paul's letters to early church communities because he was a powerful and influential personality and figure.
