We are taking it slow in trying to start a serious relationship. I thought it would be a good idea to get her a dog for christmas. Eros is the god of love so I thought that the name would be fitting. Am I right?

Thanks for all of the advice. I know that she wants a dog because that is what she asked me for. We are very in love with eachother and it is not just her dog it is both of ours and I am going to let her name it.

Dude, I wouldn't give her a dog, especially for Christmas. Christmas is about the worst time to get a new dog. With all the havoc, your dog will have a hard time getting used to everything. And then think of your friend. YOUR not the one who's now gonna have to feed the dog, play with it, give it all the excersize it needs... If you think she'd like one, give her a little stuffed dog and say you can help her find the right one.

Eros is a great name for a pet (I actually had a cat named Eros a few years ago!). That being said:

It seems like a very sweet idea- but pets are a lot of work, I would make her gift a trip to look at the dog and see what her reaction is. If she wants it you did awesome- and if she doesnt- atleast she isnt stuck with it kwim??

HTH

Think about how you or she will feel calling "Here, Eros" or "Come Eros" etc. in public? Chances are, you should let her name if it's going to be hers. Are you sure she wants a dog and is prepared to care for one? It will cost several hundreds of dollars a year to keep it as well as lots of time and energy . Weimaraners are an active breed created for all-day hunting. They aren't a lap pet who will stay home alone all day and get only leash walks for exercise.

I don't think this is a good choice. You say you are taking it slow. To give her a dog with that name is practically pushing the love issue you're both not yet sure of.
My suggestion is to let HER name the dog and show her YOUR love in other ways.

Eros is a cute name but, shouldn't you wait and let her be in on the naming process.

It is not a good idea to get somebody a dog as a present. How do you know that she will be able to take care of it?

You shouldn't give a pet for Christmas. You should really talk to her about the whole dog issue.....what if she doesn't want the dog...then what are you going to do?????

The name has nice meaning, but not very "cute".

Suggestions:
Aiko means "little loved one" in Japanese, Baci means kisses in Italian, and Tryst means "lovers rendezvou" in French.
