It is the god of this world, satan, who is the heartless one. He is described as a liar and a murderer. He tortures and twists. He stirs up hatred, selfishness, greed and prejudice.
God loves us so much he allowed himself to take the punishment we should have had. That is not being heartless. He wanted nothing to get in the way of everyone getting Eternal Life. That is love. However, he always lets us decide for ourselves. We can claimn what He has done for us, or reject it. The choice and consequences are ours alone.
Everything the devil and the world has done to us injures us at so many levels. Emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically. Sometimes the path out of this is painful. It is like when a bone is broken and sets wrong. The only choice is to re-break the bone. It's like removing a bullet. Sometimes you have to cut deep with a knife to remove it.
What we need to do is learn to trust God completely. What he does or allows to happen may be very, very painful. However, what he wants is for us to have the best life possible, an abundant life.
When I look back on my life I can see so many situations which looked like disasters, but became victories. I have learned that whatever situation I am in, God will make it turn out for the best.

I don’t think you can complain that things don’t work out for you unless you can truly say you tried your best. Then you would know if it`s meant for you and you can move on.
Say you had a friend, neighbour or needy person that you absolutely gave everything for and she referred to you as a heartless bastard who doesn’t give more – I am sure you wouldn’t appreciate the ungratefulness and disrespect but God is Merciful and Most Forgiving.
You only mentioned about your prayers not being answered but I assume you didn’t mean to be selfish you were probably thinking of the rest of humanity too. Their suffering could be a test for us all – did you spend a day in your whole life to help? And you expect to be helped yourself?! There is enough resources and plenty on earth to provide for us (injustice = greed). Individuals can change things if they care enough. People can prevent evil if they care enough. Can’t really complain why God doesn’t prevent this and that when we should prevent it ourselves.
The story is that Satan is our sworn enemy, He had too much pride and he envied Adam and he wants to lead us astray.
I worship Him because He has throughout the ages sent us guidance through His messengers (prophets) to remind us that He is our Creator, Sustainer and Provider; and to do good as he loves the just because He is the Most Just. I love Him because He is Good. There were prophets and they were very good people and their message was of God so non of us are unaware of Him.

Life means suffering! It's imperfect, we have to suffer, witness sadness and happiness, ugliness and beauty. That is just LIFE! It is perfect all the time, why do we live it?!
I worship God because his existence is logical and without worshiping God, what would be my purpose of living? For me it would be nothing.
ADDITIONAL ANSWER:
You said that you cried an pleaded God but he didn't listen. Don't you know that everything happens for a reason? Imagine if God listened to everyone's prayer's (I mean everyone) who would be the ruler of the universe then?! God or humans? Sometimes I also cry and plead God, but he doesn't listen, what's with that?! Everything no matter how bad it is, happens for a reason. Maybe God can't hear you because you don't know what's good for yourself!
After all, you don't believe in the existance of God yet, so when you do, I am sure you'll know that whatever is happening now, is happening for a reason that only God knows.

God doesn't create all the bad things that happens to us, humans do. Humans can stop it, so why should he? We have the free will to do what we want, some choose it to do nice things, others for evil. Either way, this existence is a test to see whether we choose the good over the evil so that God may reward us in the hereafter.
Edit: and to that zeggy girl. It is not the suffering child who brings that suffering upon themselves, and its not God's fault, it is other people's faults. Human beings can help all these people, but the point is, not all of us do. And also children are born with no sin, so they don't need to go and ask God for forgiveness and so on.

I don't think it's obvious.
First, we could have the entire "Omnipotent" thing wrong. So the world would be as good as God can make it, and a lot better than it could be.
Second, it's possible that the world is really nice. Have you seen the Ocean, ridden on a motorcycle, eaten that cake where your mom puts Mayonnaise in the batter? Even when I have a terrible day, there can always be something that makes me grateful for my existence.
And third, who else are you going to worship? I'm sure Vishnu, the green man, and any other Deity has his/her bastardly side. And humanism has humans, and are they really any better?

We wanted to rule ourselves, The only way to resolve this issue once and for all time is to allow us to try. We have had free will from the beginning and nothing must be allowed to interfere with it. It is we ourselves that make trouble for us, not God.
God's solution is to make his kingdom rule over the Earth at some point in the near future. At that time everyone who has ever lived, unles perhaps they were irredemably bad (but who are we to judge) will be resurrected if they have died. Also, millions of people now living will never need to die. They all can then choose life in a wonderful paradise and live forever. Forever is a very long time (which is a bit of an understatement) and this will mean that anyone who wants to live forever will wake up on a morning when all of this will be forgotten.
Trials are tough at the time, but when they are over, they can be quickly forgotten.

I do not know this God you are speaking of. I and the rest of the people at my church love the Lord and cannot imagine our lives without him. I can see from someone who has never expirienced Gods love and guidance why they might view God differently.
Some of the "rules" and practices seem very ridged and unfair. I don't know how to explain the goodness of God and the amazing comfort he is.
Its like when you view someone a certain way forever and you think all these bad things about them. Then one day you have to get to know them, or a situation comes where you actually talk to that person and realize that all the things that you thought or heard make no sense. You start to like the person and realize that it was all just he said she said and that this person is actually an awesome person. I think God gets treated like that. He really is amazing. I really hope that someday you can expirience his love for you and get to see the side of him that I get to expirience daily. God bless.

It's not God that is heartless. It is certain people. God gave us free choice and some take that to the limit and don't care what they say or do to others.
Even if people didn't believe in God why can't everyone just listen to the messages that were written about loving one another, not stealing or harming each other etc. If we all did that it would be a lovely world to live in.
So believe or not, there is an argument.

I can tell you are a Bad girl aren't ya?
'no argument'.... actually there is, a really big one.
Two errors you made, 'he's obviously a heartless bastard' and following that 'no argument'. Your the heartless bastard here, and no arugment on that.
On what basis are you saying about the One that created you?
The One that gave you everything you need and needed?
The One that gave you oxygen to breathe etc?
What are you?
Who created you?
Can you answer them?
You have no manners, nor any thanks to God, it shows how much you care.
You don't even beleive in God, so why are saying this?
'If Gof does exist' shows your an Atheist, because you used the 'IF' word. Well when it comes to ahteist, they are the dumbest people.
Read my answer about God, and realise that HE DOES EXIST!

I totally agree with Eazy E on this one and if you continue to believe that, straight to hell you go!!!! He is very real and if he didn't exist you or me wouldn't be here discussing this on yahoo. Read a bible. I can't believe that all of the bad things that are happening in this world is being blamed on GOD when he was the one that died for all of our sins. What did the devil do for you? Nothing but trying to get you to burn in hell. The way that you are thinking about God is the same way those people who put babies in the microwave think. You all are devil worshipers and should be ashamed!!! I will pray for the Lord to have mercy on your souls.
