With the problem being the mistake of taking the symbols and beliefs as truth as opposed to means to an end (the end being love and an experience of God)?

Perhaps, in a way. The problem is when people take every little word and ritual with the utmost attention and seriousness; they get too caught up in the little things to keep in mind the big picture. To see humor in one's religion, however, is to take a step back. By being able to laugh at the little things, perhaps it helps you remember what is most important (love and an experience of God).

NO. By seeing humor in another's religious beliefs and voicing that humor, you are taking away the "end" ... LOVE.

Where's the love in that?

That's not very funny, Buddy.

I think the answer is yes. If you are closed to humor, then you are closed to things that are surprising. And isn't or wouldn't God be surprising?

no because humor does not reside in everything, when something solemn is represented it is to be taken seriously.
