Oneida has one it's a salad/relish/desert fork, the notch is for cutting, (so the fork won't bend), also spearing relish out of jar,(it won't fall off), eating desert, (will hold your cherry,apple,ect on won't fall off), also to cut desert. ( never know depends on who cooked it)LOL Hope this helped

A pastry fork has a notch cut out in the top of the middle tine and a salad fork often has a decorative design or notch cut out of the bottom of the middle tine.
