You have a point. Alot of these people are ignorant about catholicism because they have been told by some one who was told by someone else lies of what catholics believe.

To say the Catholic church has existed for 2000 years is not entirely correct, because the Catholic church has not existed all of that time in its present form.
Over time the Catholic church has changed in structure, practice, and doctrine.
To say this is the same church as 2000 years ago is incorrect. Yes the Catholic church may have evolved from the original church, but it is not the same. Many denominations evolved from the Catholic church, but they are not the same church as Catholics.
On the other hand, the Bible says, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Do not be carried away with various and strange doctrines..." (Hebrews 13:8-9)
If we return and again teach and practice "the same thing" (1 Corinthians 1:10) as the early church did, then we are members of the same church as they were. If we do not, then we are not the same.
I recently found an old book that contains the rules for many card games. Some of these games I have never heard of. If I take this book and follow the rules to play one of these games, I have not created a new game unless I change the rules. By following the rules, I have restored an old game.
The Bible is the rule book for the church. If I follow the Bible, then I have not created a new church (denomination), but if I change the "rules" I have. The Catholic church no longer teaches and does the same things it did in times past, therefore, it is not the same church that existed then. It may have began with that church, but it has since changed (evolved) out of it.
Jesus does not change, and our doctrine should not change either.

I was raised Catholic, was in all boys Catholic school from 4th grade on. I dont hate catholicism but I can tell you that just because they SAY it's lasted 2000 years doesnt mean it has. Read about the first Churches, in the Bible and in the 1st and 2nd century. MUCH of what Catholicism is, and teaches was not practiced then. Peter, Paul, James, and Jude and the other leaders of the first Churches, including Jesus were not teaching things like Purgetory, saying the Rosary, Elevating Mary, Mary also being immaculately concieved or sustaining Perpetual virginity, dressing statues (Infant of Prague) having priests bless medals of "Patron Saints" or even the idea OF patron saints. All of these and several more (dont want this to be long) where added much later. Any church can claim they're descendent of Peter or Paul or whomever, but if they really WERE they would still be practicing what they preached.

Catholicism is not the only church to have existed, it's not even the only Christian Church. Coptic and Orthodox Christianity have existed just as long. There was no Roman Catholic Church until the Great Schism anyway, so the Catholic Church has not been around for 2000 years. The Catholic Church has unfortunately started wars, told people they can buy their family out of purgatory by giving the Church money, and created an entire set of rituals that have nothing to do with the Bible. The Catholic faith is God centered, but there is much in the periphery that has nothing to do with anything in the Bible. Catholicism is run by a man, and man is inherently flawed. So when a man speaks on behalf of God there is bound to be a problem. This is what some have argued as the problem with Catholicism.

The Catholic Church does not Line up with the Word Of God and to be a Catholic you cant even believe in there own catholic bible , The Catholic Church has helped to keep more people from God than any other religion on the Face of the earth , They by pass Jesus in any way they Can and worship Mary and the Saints ,The pope himself wears a patch on his Dress that clearly states that hes totally dedicated to Mary , Jesus Christ Died for The sins of the whole world and He said at his death it is finished but yet Catholics around the country and world celebrate mass everyday and crucify him again and again there by saying once is not enough ,its just one big religious system with all works and no rest for the Sincere that Love God

If you have ever attended a Catholic Mass, you would know that a part of The Bible is read every day. A previous poster said that the Catholic religion may not be evil but no one can prove what they preach. Don't other religions read from The Bible when they attend church? Yes, they do.
I agree with this question very much.
Others disagree with the Catholic faith because they have not researched what it is about. Putting down a faith because you do not know what it's about is ignorance.

I am a Southern Baptist. In my life I have never heard any of what you say.nor any condemnation of any other Christian church or denomination.only once I attended a church as a visitor and the preacher said something about an Indian temple near there church and he called them heathens . I didn't like that at all. people have a right to worship anyway they feel is best for them. I would occasionally attend a Catholic Church no one ever said anything to me about it.a friend of mine is a priest

Because TV Preachers, modern-day American Protestant theological colleges and seminaries have bought into the idea of "sola scriptura" (which was not even heard of for the first 1,500 years of Christendom) and don't study reputable church history nor the writings of the Apostolic Fathers of the Undivided Church (prior to 1054 A.D.) before they go spouting off in their ignorance.
Your mileage may vary.

If someone is going to establish a Cristian splinter sect, they are going to feel a need to justify it. That means that they must vilify the trunk from which they split. As there get to be more and more Christian denominations, the one which is easiest to attack is the one which has a central, worldwide hierarchy. The Catholic Church is the one which best fits that description.

And you really think that Catholicism is EXCLUDED from the scriptural text you just cited?? Guess again!
Keep on searching... hopefully, you'll also find the truth some day.
Seek and you shall find. Open your eyes and you shall see. Listen and you shall hear. Knock and the door shall be opened to you.
Peace be with you.

Well... other Christians say that because they know nothing about Catholicism but what limitted bits of information their own religion gives them.
Agnostics say so because they don't believe in organized religion.
Atheists say so because they don't believe in any god at all.
Everyone else says so because they have their own religions that they believe in.
