I'll agree that Kendall Jackson is a very solid choice, but for a few bucks less I use Vengange Chardonnay as my "house white". A white Zin is WAY too sweet for most people who actually drink wine.

I am mot an expert in the field but I prefer Riesling a German wine mostly because it is not too expensive and I like the taste. There are a lot of good wines from California that you can buy at a reasonable price. I recommend that you choose one of those.

If your guest is a wine drinker, avoid the overly sweet wines, esp. "white zinfadel," which is actually pink.

Columbia Crest white wines are very reasonably priced and most people enjoy them. They should be a bit less expensive than Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, which is also quite nice.

Nobilo is a light and fruity wine. It's an excellent wine for the price (about $10/bottle).

If you can find Gallo Cafe Chardonnay, its the best... otherwise, Sutter Home Chardonay and Gallo Chardonay, they're all around $6 for a smaller bottle and $10-12 for a larger bottle.

Try a Kendell Jackson Chardonnay. It is an excellent wine and moderately priced.

Cheers!

Two Buck Chuck - found at Trader Joe's. Charles Hill, usually runs 2.99 a bottle and is surprisingly good.

Boons Farm, strawberry hill. Light (though not quite white), with a pink hue. Tasty, and only $2.00 a bottle!
