There is a spray that you can buy at Petsmart or Petco (any major pet store) that is usually used for training an animal not to chew on things. This spray tastes very bitter and yucky to any animal that licks it. Spray the formula on the bottom part of the tree.

oh dear, you must keep him away Try citrus smells like orange and stuff cats don't like it alot of people say pepper because when a at stands on it and licks its paws it hot but i worry it will get in their eye or something so try citrus smells- put orange peel around the tree. Or squirt the cat with water

I recomend reading a book called Cat Detective. I got it from WH Smiths about a week ago and it covers various topics, the chewing of cable and other things they shouldn't is one of the subjects, it will sort you out a treat. It has lots of other handy hints also.

put stuff on the tree that he dosen't like EXAMPLE: spray a little bit of lemon juice on the plces where he chews. The taste should keep him away

You can buy a spray from the vets, it is called `bitter almond` you spray it on whatever your pet chews, they hate the taste!
