The wound is only a small dot. It did not punture to deeply in. I have not had a tetanus shot in over 20 yrs. Should I worry? Or should I go get the shot. I heard the antibodies you receive from the shot might not work for up to two weeks.

Heaven's YES!!!!!!!!!! Go get a tetnus shot!! Clean the wound regardless of how small it is and go to a minor emergency clinic. I doubt if your insurance would pay for a trip to the emergency room, but you should certainly try it if there is not a minor emergency clinic in your area. This is not something to mess around with. You could get very, very sick, very , very quickly. Don't wait until Monday, it may be toooooooooo late!!!

I am not qualified to give medical advice, but I would say that you should definitely get a tetanus shot in the near future, regardless of what happened to you. This will protect if anything similar happens in the future. For now, just keep cleaning the wound often to prevent infection.

How long ago did you have your last Tetnus shot. It it has been over five years you should get another.
Regularly you need a Tetnus every 10 Years, but if something like that happens, and you haven't had one for over five years, you should immediately go to the doctor and get another.

yes, see a doctor. I stepped on a rusty nail and after soaking it a few days it became infected. After being taken to the doctor I found out that I had cellulitus and needed to stay in the hospital for a week with antibiotic treatment. You should call your doctor and take it from there. Good luck!

Get a shot, it's good for 10 years unless you get another "rusty" wound within that time , then it's only good for 5 years. Just got one myself.

Go get the shot. That rusty nail could start some nasty infections. No matter how much it went in, go get the shot.

You should definitely go and get your shot. Hospitals always give shots sraight after this kind of injury. Also as you haven't had one for so long you should update it. In the meantime thoroughly flush it out and use antiseptic cream.

If it broke the skin at all, you should get a tetanus shot.
