my hubby says dial the number

Yes, country code for France is +33 (on a mobile phone you can enter +33 and it will work).

From the UK landline you need to dial 00 33 then the number with area code (less the leading zero).

NB the country code for UK is +44 (then the number less the first zero) if the person in France wants to call you back).

I hope this helps.

If you want to take a UK phone to France - the socket is different - it may also have different ringing voltages, live level etc. or need a UK Master socket. If this is your question then don't bother - buy a cheap phone in France.

Perhaps I am looking at this question the wrong way, but I think you mean 'can I take a telephone purchased in the UK to France and plug it into a French 'phone socket'?
If that is what you want to know, then I think it will work ok, BUT one problem you will have is that French 'phone sockets are different to the UK ones, so what you will have to do is to look at the 'phone and if it's one of those where you can remove the lead, then you should be ok because you can replace it with a lead bought in France which will have the correct plug on the end.
I think it should then work ok.
Regards - Tim
p.s.sorry if I musunderstood.

A bit ambiguous I might say, UK landline connects successfully to any network anywhere, provided you know the country code which should preceed the number you are dialing.

For example, if you are calling US, the country code is +1, you then add the number you want to call exlcuding the leading zero.

You might start by finding out the country code for France, and remember international calls cost more that local or national

Good luck

I believe that the REN number may not be the same so no it won't work. I think the French don't use 50 volts either. I wouldn't chance it, buy a new apparatus in France.
