Well, since you can't really "force" people to learn something, I'm saying no you can't make them learn english. The funny thing is, the US has been the most powerful country in the world for quite some time but that doesn't mean it will be that way forever. I think it is good for Americans to be learning other languages, as well as the foreigners who come here.

One has to learn English so that the person can go freely any where in the world. It is the International language spoken almost everywhere in the world. It acts as an umbrella to safeguard one's interests. A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the Internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of on line courses, which teach written and spoken English. You can also improve your English by watching television programs and reading English newspapers. For more information, visit http://tinyurl.com/qnzpt

Yes. English is the defacto language of this country. The government should not have to pay the expense of providing documents in numerous languages to accommodate people who do not learn it. Several people where I work said they would quit their jobs before they would learn Spanish.

I think one wonderful thing about American is that we don't FORCE people to do much of anything. So, no, I don't think they should be forced to learn English. I don't think any countries have this sort of requirement and our country, a democracy, wouldn't enforce such a thing.
I think that people should learn to speak the native language of the country in which they live, however, so eventually, non-speakers should make some effort to learn English. Not learning it is ridiculous but forcing someone to learn is undemocratic.

You can't FORCE someone to learn english.
And chances are, if you demand hispanic people to learn english, they'll shoot you in the face. Lmaooo. Just because they don't speak your language doesn't make them any worse of a person. I hate the way people are so ignorant. Ugh. :[
