When I purchased my car almost a year ago, the dealer offered to pay for my car insuranse with his credit card because my college credit card had not yet been activated. He just said to pay him back as soon as I could because he was a friend of my mom. So I did, but I just got a letter from AAA saying I have to pay $50 to renew my membership. For a whole year I was never billed monthly from AAA but they sent me a card. I have no idea if car insuranse is the same as membership.

I don't know if I have been driving for a whole year without insurance and I feel like the car dealer lied about getting me insurance and just got me a membership. Thank you very much.

Membership in the AAA does not give you auto insurance. You have to buy your own auto insurance. As you might know, by now, dealers will tell you anything to sell you a car.
In most states now, the insurance company is required to send you an insurance identification card, as proof of insurance if you get stopped by the police.
If no insurance company sent you a card, assume the worst, you do not have insurance.

Car dealers will often pay for the downpayment for a customer in order to expedite the selling of the vehicle. The downpayment only covers you for 30 to 45 days. After that time your policy cancelled and you have been uninsured for almost a year.

An AAA membership, on the other hand, covers things like towing and roadside assitance, not insuring your vehicle. Beyond our classic roadside assistance, membership also brings a variety of valuable benefits: expert travel assistance, competitive insurance rates, help buying or leasing vehicles, financial services, approved auto repair recommendations and member savings.

Yikes- you are extremely lucky you went this year with no accidents. All it takes is one injury to put you into a lifetime of debt...

RUN dont walk... and take this matter into your own hands and get insurance. Never depend on other people to do something so important.

if you took out an insurance policy you would have had to sign an application, did you do this? call the dealer back and ask him what company he placed your coverage with
