Yes, it is totally normal to be nervous for the first month of work. We have an unwritten 3 month rule at our office. That's how long we figure it should take to learn everything and feel comfortable with what you are doing. Cut yourself some slack and keep up the good work.......it's the ones that don't worry about doing a good job that we need to worry about!

It's as normal as anything could possibly be. Rest assured that your supervisor was nervous during his/her early days on the job; that the servers, working there for the first time, were nervous when the job was new to them;that anybody, doing something new, will have butterflies and will make mistakes. The reactions you get from your co-workers will depend on their personalities (not on yours, since you obviously are working hard and trying to do well). Some people will be supportive because they remember what it was like for them; others may be nasty because they are nasty people - not only toward you, but with anyone and everyone. You can' t do anything about that. Keep showing the staff that you are a dedicated, conscientious employee. They may not appreciate your mistakes if their earnings are affected, but in time you are certain to improve. You are doing your best, and your best should be good enough for anyone. You can only get better. The worst is already behind you.

It takes time to get use to any new job. You will make mistakes now and then, that is to be expected of a new employee. The longer you're there the better you will get at your job. The only other suggestion I have for you, I received from a friend of mine who is also a hostess. She keeps cribsheets. She has a little check list of the servers and who received the last guest. That way she doesn't mess up on the rotation. I wish you the best of luck in your job.

Yes it's totally normal. It's a new place , new job, lots of new people to get used too. You sound like you are really trying hard to do a good job ! Bosses and coworkers are usually very understanding if the new worker is trying to do good. What generally pisses people off is a lazy, non caring attitude... you are not like that.
If you make an error say sorry and strive to do better the next time.
By the end of your second month you should be more relaxed and confident. Good luck with your new job!

i think it's normal....during the first month everything is still new...you don't know all the staff well yet, etc....it's normal to be nervous in new situations.....try this: think about what would be the worst possible mistake you could make and what would be the consequences for that....what if you did screw up the rotation? the servers might get pissed? would you get fired?....is that gonna be the end of life as you know it??.......thinking about what could go wrong and realizing it really isn't the hugest deal, sometimes takes some of the pressure off

yes it is totally normal, I was also a newbie hostess for a very busy casino buffet, but I got the hang of it, and you will too. Just keep in mind that the servers know you are new, and they should not get mad at you if you do make a mistake.....you are still in the training phase.......soon as a new girl comes along you will be pro! trust me!

You are going to be just fine. Everyone is nervous about a new job or a first job.
Even if you make mistakes, just smile graciously and apologize. The servers will correct you in a kind way if you are open to suggestions.
Don't worry, just be kind, better than anything else you can do.

yea i think alot of peeps are nervous when starting a new job, try to help yourself out by keeping a tally, like write the names of all the waiters/servers on a notepad, then as your seating peeps mark a | by there name and if someone wants to sit in someone else's section (we'd like to have a booth please >.<) after seating them tell the waiter that his customer wanted to be seated in a different spot, and tell him youll seat him/her on the next batch of peeps, hope everything goes smooth for ya, peace.

of course its normal to be nervous. you are new to the job and are getting used to it. dont worry about the servers, just do what you are supposed to do. everyone who starts a new job wants to do it right and make a good impression on the boss/coworkers. just do what you think is right and be yourself. you will do just fine
