What made you take that first drink or that first puff? Even after you kept hearing about how bad it was for you? When was the first time you got drunk? What does it feel like to drink to the point of intoxication? And does alcohol taste like? And what does it feel like to have a craving for it? I know this is a lot but please bare with me.

Edit: This is great, thanks for the input everyone, keep it coming. I was also wondering how many of you got alcohol so young? Did friends give it to you? Did you steal it or what? Thanks everyone

I never got to like the taste of alcohol. Peer pressure in high school started me smoking.

I first got drunk at college, it seemed something interesting so I gave it a chance. I'll blame all my current outflow of income to the alcohol companies of this world on curiosity. The health concerns never worried me, that's just how I am. The first time I got drunk I was at a party somewhere (see I don't even remember) and it was just a good time. Really uninhibited and loose. Drinking to intoxication is heavenly, you'll see me at the bar later. Alcohol can taste good or bad or horrid, it depends on what you buy and your tolerance for bad tastes. Having a craving is like a compulsion. It like sits in the back of your mind, like "wow I should have a drink/smoke". I only had a craving after smoking a couple cigarettes one night, but I decided one vice was enough.

For me it was very much culture, drinking to celebrate and although I do not smoke cigarettes I have the occasional puff on a cigar to celebrate a victory.

I have never heard that drinking was bad for you I understand that smoking will give yo cancer (or increase your chances of getting it) but so many other everyday things do too.

I first got drunk when I was thirteen, and it felt great. A wonderful feeling of relaxation.

What does it taste like? Well alcohol itself doesn't really have a taste, it has more of a sensation of warmth as you drink it. However normally alcohol is diluted and flavoured in other ways, for example beer and wine have quite different tastes, because they are made differently.

To have a craving for alcohol is like craving anything else (food, TV, computer games, sex ...) It really is just a feel of want, like I want to have the latest smart phone, or I want to have a bacon and egg sandwich. When you get what you want you have this amazing sensation of satisfaction.

Hope this helps,

J

Growing up around it, parent's, there friends, as u get older ur friends.
i got drunk on my 21st birthday, to drink to the point of intoxication is fun while ur with ur buddys, but u have to pay for it on ur on if u get into any trouble, and if u don't u still have to pay for it the next day it's called, hungover. If u ask me alcohol taste is all about what ur taste buds desire, for example if u like budweiser, u will hate miller and it goes vice versour. It's an individual feeling everone doesn't crave. I guess it would be like having a taste for chocolate and desiding wheter to go get it or not.

well I began drinking sharing with family at age 10 er...only on new years eve. on my own at 14 but I knew how to space them out and enjoy, back then.

as an adult I drink responsibly but if I remember the first time I got drunk was at 21. it felt great but I was never intoxicated ever.

as to smoking well, that began at 21 but I didn't like it because I was graduating college. I never did it again. until I was 26 my then husband got me into it. I loved buying cigarettes for the prizes you got with them....remember the 5point upc's from Marlboro? boy I got alot of stuff. then my daughter's father was the strongest smoker I've been with. now I quit completely when I got pregnant, that was 6 years ago and ever since I have not looked at a cigarrette even in a painting. I still drink ocassionally and have cravings for the sweet tasting amaretto, alize, remyred...and of course the exquisite and classy Johnnie Walker.

I had my first drink when I turned 21 to see what the big fuss was over drinking and I am proud to say that I have never been drunk. I only have a few drinks every now and then when I'm hanging out with friends so I can't really say what it's like to have a craving for it.

You are not loosing something worthy to do. If you would do that you will be sorry in the short and long term. Your health, job, marriage and other relations would be affected. To know better join an Alcoholic Anonymous group even thou that you are not an alcoholic and you will know what I am talking about. You have to be careful because alcoholism can be the first step to drugs.

Thanks to my older brother , I started drinking and smoking when I was 12 years old.He was 2 years older than me and I hung out with him and his friends alot. They thought it was so cool when I started smoking. What's bad is I still do today, but he doesn't.I still drink too.He doesn't.I guess I can blame him for when I was younger, but I only have myself to blame now.You ask what does it feel like to get drunk.Well, it's FUN getting drunk, but the next morning sucks. If you don't drink or smoke, I strongly recommend that you don't start.Take it from someone who knows.
