The whole notion of your "soul" is completely imaginary. The concept of a "soul" has been invented by religion because many people have trouble facing their own mortality. It makes people feel better, but the concept is a complete fabrication.

It is when you think about the chemical reactions powering your life and your brain that you realize how completely imaginary your "soul" truly is. And at that point, everything about religion comes unraveled.

Think back to when you were a kid and you realized that Santa was imaginary. As soon as you knew it, it was obvious. Reindeer cannot fly. A man cannot slide down chimneys. There is no way for one little sleigh to carry all the toys for all the kids in the world. Etc. It is obvious that Santa is make believe.

In the same way, it is obvious that human beings are big, walking chemical reactions . Your "soul" is make believe just like Santa. When the chemical reactions cease, you die.

I agree with you to some degree. the religious notion of a soul is sort of ridiculous HOWEVER, there are some scientific reasons to believe that consciousness, as a physical manifestation, has a basis in biology.

For instance, our brains work via electrical impulses... if there is some energy related to consciousness that energy, thanks to the 1st law of thermodynamics, cannot be created or destroyed only transferred or transformed. Thus, the idea that there might be some residual collection of energy post death is not totally ridiculous. But the idea that that energy would maintain its identity as a 'soul' and would stay cohesive post death is truly ridiculous.

Anyway, it is just a thought... one among many.

Even this concept though is born of a need to somehow escape the mortality that frightens us all... this is the main reason for religion, that and the fact that someone a long time ago figured out that it was a GREAT way to control people!

I can't actually prove that parts of the Santa story aren't based on a truth even though I tend not to believe any of it. Maybe we are wrong about some things having to do with the 'soul' and it's actually something very different. It doesn't mean that none of the soul 'story' is true. But, sure, you could be right. Anything is possible.

It's all in what you believe. I believe I have a soul and there is nothing I can think of that will convince me otherwise. At the same time, you believe you don't have a soul and nothing can convince you otherwise.

I don't understand why it seems to be so important for everyone to try to prove that their beliefs are the right ones.

I say we don't try to convince anyone of anything but just take advantage of this forum by learning different aspects of the faiths presented here.

I disagree to a certain extent. I do believe in chemical reactions make you feel a certain way and what not. But can you possibly blame everything on chemicals? Your soul, in my opinion, grows and developes as you grow. Its your understanding of love, and how you feel, its your conscience, and its your feelings that can't be explained. Religion doesn't deny that chemical reactions aren't real. Your soul is you as a whole, who you are as a person.

Well, if you don't believe that soul is imaginary...why is that you feel pain...why is that you love somoene...or get hurt by someone with words....all you do feel you feel with your spirituality...with your inner sense....you might not seeing it...but that doesn't mean that doesen't exist.

Maybe people are afriad to exept it...cuz the soul exists after the death.but nothing to be scared of.It is a fact that mybe needs to be prooved.

much about our beings and the vastness of the universe are still a mystery, and sometimes we get frustrated by our inability to understand, but one thing is certain, you cannot explain one mystery with another mystery.
the time comes when we just have to admit that we do not know, and in accepting this then we can move on to what we do know.

Umm, don't participate in organized religion and still fathom the idea of a soul; I hope that wasn't your argument for disproving it

Your soul is who you are; it's your life. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's imaginary. Love, laughter, joy, sadness, reason...all these are products of your soul, none of which you can see either.
