Actually, please don't assume you KNOW I believe in God. I don't know about all this God stuff really. I guess that would make me more of an Agnostic?? I'm a science major and a philosophy minor. I tend to think along the basis of science and logic.

I think atheists do actually believe in God.

As a Christian I believe God to be the one who knows best what I need, the one who has all authority in my life, the one who calls all the shots.

An atheist also believes there is one who knows best what he needs, one who has all authority, one who calls all the shots.

The difference is, I believe that someone is a deity called God who is my creator. An atheist believes that someone is himself.

So in essence, the atheist believes he is God.

It depends on the person. You're question is somewhat concerning as well, as it seems to me that you think that if someone doesn't believe in a god that they have some kind of gap they must fill. I'll put it to you this way... If you don't believe in Zeus then what do you believe in? I know you already believe in god so that's not the issue... the point is, if you don't believe something that doesn't mean that you must automatically believe in something else of the same stature... It's this kind of binary thinking that causes a lot of the problems found in religion.

Atheists typically believe that they are accountable for themselves.

Some people like to say that because of the lack of belief in God, that atheists feel no need to be held accountable. On the contrary, atheists realize that no one will speak up for them.

Atheists do not believe that performing a wrong deed will get them punished by God, but they do realize that the wrong deed is harmful for others, so they (the moral ones, at least) refrain from performing the wrong deed.

Also, atheists do not believe that performing a good deed will receive reward from God, but they do realize that good deeds benefits others, so they (again, the moral ones) perform good deeds.

In a sense, it's a more pure morality. An atheist does what he does (for good or for bad) because he feels the need within himself. You know that it is based on what the atheist wants and not because the atheist is trying to please a supernatural being.

Now, that's not to say that ALL atheists act selflessly or that ALL theists do good deeds only out of fear of a higher being, but you can be assured of the honesty of the atheist. When he does good things, he isn't doing it for a heavenly pat on the head, and when he does bad things, he doesn't blame some evil being for making him do something. It's all up to the atheist.

If you are of a philosophical or intellectual bent read the works of Friedrick W. Nietzsche who lived in the late 1800's to find out generally where they are coming from or get a copy of Richard Dawkins recent book "The God Delusion". Both are self avowed atheists.

you can't assume that any generalization will always hold true for any religion or no religion. As for myself I believe in pretty much what I did when I was a christian but I don't seek converts to a way of thinking or behaving. Atheists didn't seek the title of atheist. There's no title for those who don't believe in tarot cards or the god Thor. Ethical people are ethical people, period. There is a saying, Good people do good things, Bad people do bad things, But for good people to do bad things, that takes religion.

may be athiests don't have brain to think..
if they think they will realize the word humanity or society is originally generated by the religions..
if no religion then no LAWS..... a government itself is not perfect to make any LAW but they are taking rules from religions.......

if you rightly follow any LAW it will guide you towards.. the signs of God.. that is every creature is made by the God ..

the perfections in the models of everything can only be done by the God..
so.. think....... if you are athiest . then i argue atleast believe in Science..

if you believe in science you will definitely come to the point the God exists and because of HIS existance everything is working well on the right track..

you might have seen tsunami.. some earthquakes... still by the so advancement made by the science still we are unable to tackle all these things.. because these things are generated by some perfection that is God.. by doing such thing.. HE proves that HE exist and to show HIS signs.. so that people.. who feel themselves more powerful can fetch out the lesson .. that nothing is more powerful than God..

so .. without believe i feel human is nothing.. and without the guidence of religion.. "no humanity"

so.... think!! coz life is too short to realize. try to find out why we are here on earth .. there are some duties which God implies upon .. us.. which we definitely have to fulfill....

i think.. Athiest is a person who doesn't believe in God.. and spending his social life calmly then tell him to realize who taught him to survive as a Good citizen in the society . why he is not a criminal..!!!

May Allah swt.. guides us towards right path. and help you to know the truth...

if you 've doubt in the existance of God....

and if you believe in science then definitely you 'll see the resemblance in established science and in sacred scripture..especially Qur'an..

Depends on the atheist. Some believe the most important thing is the almighty dollar, themselves, their country, etc. The main difference is they do not believe in a supreme, personal deity.

Science.

Remember, without science, you wouldn't have that computer you're using today. Without science, you wouldn't have heat in your homes, cars to drive, television sets, flu shots, or any of the other modern conveniences you have.

And most of those that created the conveniences of our lives were Atheist. Most scientists are.

So, before you go about dismissing everything because "the bible says so", you might like to consider fact before fiction and fear.

Well, look at all the "believers" telling me what I believe!

I am 100% aethiest. I believe in everything "believers" believe, with the exception of an imaginary fairy-tale god. It is beyond me why "believers" think they need a threat of punishment or promise of reward to be "good". It is like I am living with children!

I believe religion is not the answer, it is the problem.

Past not having belief in a god or gods, there is no tenet, rule, or other quality that all atheists have in common.

I personally believe in humanity, love, freedom, and rational thought to name a few.
