The Bible is a precious gift from God. It is like a letter from a loving father to his children. It tells us the truth about God—who he is and what he stands for. It explains how to cope with problems and how to find true happiness. The Bible alone tells us what we must do to please God.—Psalm 1:1-3; Isaiah 48:17, 18.

2. The Bible was written by some 40 different men over a period of 1,600 years, beginning in 1513 B.C.E. It is made up of 66 little books. Those who wrote the Bible were inspired by God. They wrote his thoughts, not their own. So God in heaven, not any human on earth, is the Author of the Bible.—2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:20, 21.

3. God made sure that the Bible was accurately copied and preserved. More Bibles have been printed than any other book. Not everyone will be happy to see you studying the Bible, but do not let that stop you. Your eternal future depends on your getting to know God and doing his will despite any opposition.—Matthew 5:10-12; John 17:3.

You've obviously been reading the Bible if you can quote references like these. Much thinking is required to consider the presentation of the gospel, but it is designed to be simple enough for a child to understand. The thinking should be required in that you must count the cost of belief. Salvation is a free gift, you can't earn it. There are costs though in the call to obedience to God's commands. Jesus said, "If you love me, obey me." Faith comes by hearing the Word, hearing is through reading the Bible or hearing someone else speak the truths presented in the Bible. Not many will pick it up and read it without being influenced by a believer. In the days the New Testament was written, there were very few copies of the Law and Prophets (Old Testament) available to the common man. This was true of the Canonical Bible up until the 16th century when Martin Luther published the Bible in German and it began to be published in other common man languages of Europe. So because of this, preachers were the method of conveyance up until that time. Now its more because there is little incentive to read the Bible unless you were raised in a Christian home, so the preacher is still the main conveyance of the truths presented in the Bible.

Hearing and reading the Bible increases faith/belief. I recommend starting in John because this book was written to the unschooled in the faith of Abraham and Moses. After John read the book of Acts which is a record of the works of faith/belief in Christ. If, however, you were raised in the Jewish faith, I'd recommend you start in the book of Hebrews. You can go to a Bible store and find a recommended reading schedule for new believers to read through the Bible for the purpose of increasing your faith.

It simply mean contacting somebody who knows the Bible more than yourself. eg Jehovah's witnesses. After Saul’s conversion from Judaism to Christianity “he got to be for some days with the disciples in Damascus, and immediately in the synagogues he began to preach Jesus, that this One is the Son of God.” (Acts 9:15-20) After he learned the truth it did not take him long to express his belief. Saul, later called Paul, knew that the best place to begin his preaching work was where people were.

With an open heart, open eyes, open ears, an open soul. Else, why try...? Point being: it is faith that saves you and if the bible helps strengthen that faith, push forward.

Sure, to some, the world is their bible. To others it would be the people they most love. And yet others, travelling to and fro, do not realize they find the bible breathing through someone they need to forgive.

Read it all with faith but do not be hasty in speaking as though an expert... faith is lived, not boasted.

Lovely quotes. But I'll tell you what you do. Get out there and find a few really good books about lots of topics--science, psychology, relationships--anything that's important to you. Books written by people, not claiming to be inspired by God.

OK, now compare what you read to the Bible. Funny how God comes across, isn't it? Banishing lepers instead of healing them isn't good medical care. As for asking husbands and fathers to stone to death their wives and daughters...that just doesn't strike me as providing exceptional relationship skills.

I mean, considering he created the universe and all...I just somehow expected more.

It has always made me wonder. Hm...

First you should study ancient Egyptian and Greek mythology. You'll find that the stories are about same. Same for the story of Jesus. Example, research, Horus the Sun God.

WHAT CAN WE DO “TO EARN” OUR SALVATION IN CHRIST?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

While in London England in January 2006, I stayed at a breakfast & bed near Victoria Station. The hotel was run by those of the Islamic Faith! I had a good conversation with a very knowledgeable about Christianity. He claimed that Islam and Christianity were ‘Almost Brothers’ sharing the Faith of Abraham!

After listening to his “Explanation of the Islamic – Faith by Works” I them told him of the Christian Gospel. The “The ONE TIME PAYMENT FOR ALL SIN” by Christ Jesus on the Cross, in His statement on the Cross. YES, “The FINISHED WORK” of Christ, could not be ‘added Upon!’ by “Any Works” and that Salvation was “By GRACE – THROUGH FAITH” in that Finished Work!

I explained Ephesians 2:8-to-10. That FAITH in Christ’s Finished Work: Brings Salvation, and “Then - COME THE WORKS DONE IN FAITH!” As verse 10 states, the Works FOLLOW the Real Biblical Faith!

Belief - in Jesus: Must be done According to John 7:38 - for as Christ said there is another way in John 10:1-to-18 that was the Wrong Way! The WORD speaks to the same in Proverbs 14:12 & 16:25.

Then I explained GRACE! This Biblical Concept “Is FOREIGN” to the Islamic Mind! The example I used went like this. In London England, the cost of living is as Expensive as New York City! You own a car, and have it parked on the street. You use it to get to Work and in Business “Each and Every DAY! Someone, Crashed into Your CAR – And you go outside – And TELL HIM – “YOU ARE FORGIVEN!” You may leave, and go about your business, I will not call the Police, and “I WILL ABSORB – THE LOSS AND THE COST – OF MY CAR!”

That is a Word Picture of the Grace of God! JESUS TOOK OUR SIN, on the Cross-, and THAT WAS THE FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST – IN TOTAL PAYMENT FOR US! We can do Nothing MORE! He Adsorbed the LOSS, THAT WE MAY BE SET FREE FROM THE PENALTY AND THE DEATH OF SIN!

(Ephesians 2:8-9-10) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
(Eph 2:9) Not of works, lest any man should boast.
(Eph 2:10) For we are His Workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

(2Corinthians 5:17-to-21) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
(2Co 5:18) And all things are of God, Who hath reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
(2Co 5:19) To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us The Word of reconciliation.
(2Co 5:20) Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, Be You Reconciled to God.
(2Co 5:21) For HE [GOD] hath made Him [JESUS] to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him [JESUS].

(Titus 3:3-to-8) For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
(Tit 3:4) But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
(Tit 3:5) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His Mercy - He saved us, - By the Washing of Regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
(Tit 3:6) Which He [GOD] shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
(Tit 3:7) That being justified by His Grace, we should be made Heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
(Tit 3:8) This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.

(2Corinthians 3:5) Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; - But our sufficiency - Is Of GOD;

(Galatians 3:2-3) This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
(Gal 3:3) Are ye so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Thanks, RR
