is it worth doing?

It was totally worth doing for me. I also work at a LASIK center (the same one I had my surgery at too). As long as you have a stable prescription and you're 21 or older (18 is okay too but 21 is usually better).

Best thing to do is get a consultation (or go to a couple of LASIK centers for comparison shopping). A consultation should be free of charge with no obligations for surgery. A thorough exam should last 1 1/2-2 hours and your eyes may be dilated. They should measure your prescription, corneal thickness measurements, corneal topography of the eyes. At the end you should meet with the surgeon who can tell you what you're a candidate for, chances of getting 20/20 vision, any risks involved for your measurements.

Don't bargain shop for lowest price. I know some prices may seem awesome because they're low ($499/eye etc) but you can't put a price on your vision. Those are usually fees for people with low corrections who can probably get by without glasses or contacts as well as new surgeons.

Make sure to do some research on your surgeon (experience level - how many procedures as well as how many years in practice, success rate...) and the types of technology offered (lasers and method of flap creation).

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Lasik and Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

I know lots of people. I am jealous. I was turned down for it because of thin corneas. My strength is -11.5 on my contacts. I would die for it. The new implantable lenses are out. An option for me. It is more expensive. I was told 3500 an eye. May go down by the time I can afford it. Have it done. My eyes are terrible. They worse your eyes get over the eyes, your chances lessen.

I know 3 people that have had it done and none of them had any problems. It is expensive though. One person said they could smell the burning. If you don't want to wear glasses or lenses and can afford it of course it is worth it. Athletes get this done all the time.

it is a good idea if you have high numbers and hate spects. it has a small risk of loosing sharpness in differenciating shades of same colour and if you are working in profession requiring accurate sharpness between objects and very fine work then I would not recommend it.

wont go for it for a small numbers (say below 4 myopic). nowadays good spects and lenses available to add on style and generally are well accepted within all major fashions societies.
