It's a dog. Who cares?
I don't get why anyone would want a "papered" dog anyway. What's the big deal?

Some people have the misconception that "papered" and "pure bred" are better.

I have 2 american pitbull terriers, not papered, that I rescued. I have one pitbull mix, one heinz 57, and another pitbull that I am fostering.

Now people are obsessed with "designer breeds," which are nothing more than mutts with a cutesy name attached...and a hefty price tag!!! These are not pure bred anything, and it drives me crazy to hear about all the new "breeds" coming out.

This is a great question. I understand people who are reputable being picky and obsessed, but for the normal every day pet dog, it makes no difference.

It's not an obsession, it's a preference. I happen to like German Shepherds; the breed traits are what I'm looking for in a dog.

(and it's never "just a dog." People who feel that way should stick to tropical fish).

And what is important is the breeding, not the papers. I can buy a "papered" GSD from a puppy mill and get a dog with dysplasia, pannus, you name it.

Or I can get a quality dog from a conscientious breeder who carefully picks his breeding stock for health and stamina rather than profit.

I love German shepherds, whether AKC registered or not. The breed has all the traits that I value in a companion animal: intelligence, loyalty, and terrific personalities. My current Shep is unregistered, but she's smart, fun, and the best dog I've ever owned.

That's not to say that I haven't owned other breeds (everything from a Husky cross to a Scottie) and loved them just as much. There are great dogs in every breed, but not all breeds suit everyone's temperament or lifestyle.

I don't consider myself to be obsessed with German shepherds, but I do know the characteristics that I want in a pet. The German shepherd comes as close to the perfect dog for me as any breed possibly could.

Pure breed dogs are bred for distinct purposes. Ex: You wouldn't get a Beagle if you need a sled dog. People generally look for a specific breed because it has characteristics that suit their lifestyle.

Ppl get a papered dog for many reasons. Could be for breeding purposes or getting papers is a way of proof that you have a purebred and not a mutt. For show purposes.

Well, I have a purebred Siberian Husky that I rescued, and he sure isn't papered. But, I've had a love for this breed for 11 years now and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. But then again, I also love Boxers, and Rotts, and Pugs, and Aussie Shepherds, and the list could go on. I also love mixed breeds! I don't think there's anything wrong with having a favorite breed.

What, I should go coursing with a Poodle cross??? My friends should go hunting with a Sheltie cross???

SOME people still use their dogs for the function they were bred to do. Just because YOU don't doesn't mean nobody else does.

I can just see my Poodle cross bouncing along after the lure! I can just see my friends Sheltie cross running around the field yapping!

Were you AWARE that different breeds have different jobs?

Well, I'm off to hook up my Whippets to a sled, we're going mushing....

LOL!

Over the years I have had many pets some pure breed, some mutts. They have all been a wonderful addition to my home, and each one was loved. When my husband decided that he wanted a bulldog I wanted a pure bred puppy, only because bulldogs are expensive and I wanted to research his parentage to be sure that he came from healthy, parents. $2000.00 for a puppy is a big investment, and I didn't want a sick, ugly dog for that kind of money. He is a great bulldog with a $900.00 stud fee, I couldn't get that without his papers

Some people want to use their dog for breeding pruposes to preserve the breed or to put them in shows. To do either, you need papers. Personally, I don't care. I opted not to register my Lab because why do I care? She's not going to be bred nor will she be oput in shows. She's my companion and that's all that matters.

I have a "papered" white Siberian Husky and I have a mutt....they are both the same to me but others do obsess in a way that I could not relate to. I love them both but my Husky I can breed her if I wanted to and I could make a very large amount of money. But I couldn't watch her go through all that pain. Alot of ppl are in it for the $$$$
