In gym, we all have the same uniform of a short sleeve shirt and mesh shorts.

This is my first year in the uniform, and I am starting to feel uncomfortable. I am not totally obbsessed with it, but it is just one of those things that sort of frustrating.

For example: We are playing soccer, no shin guards. I am going for the ball, and so is a sporty guy. I aim to kick it out of his way, and he does at the same time. He ends up kicking me painfully in the shin.

Our overreacting gym teachers run over and want us to sit down so they can examine our shins. So the whole class crowds around me and my hairy legs, examining them to see a future bruise forming.

The hair there isn't dark, sortof goldenish, but still....

Do you think I should be worrying about it at my age? I am only in 6th grade, but it just makes me feel...insecure.

I had the same problem (the hair thing not the shine thing) for me it was just embarrassing. Especial Sense I seat across from the guy I like. And It seamed to me that everyone but me and the guys had hair legs. And so I went home that day locked myself in the bathroom got a razor and shaved.

-So what I'm trying to say is if it's a BIG problem, and if it makes you feel self Concise, Then go ahead. I know I know it sounds superficial, But in the long run it gives your self esteem a little boost. And it's one less thing to worry about.(As in in the 6th grade we start to care about the stupidest things hair, looks, etc.)
-HOPE IT HELPS
-GOOD LUCK

I started shaving my hair in the middle of 7th grade because my friends pointed out to me that my legs were hairy.
So I gave in to peer pressure. I wish I had waited a little bit because once you start shaving your hair, it will grow back thicker and darker. I don't care if anyone says otherwise. By the time I was in high school, my hair was a lot coarser and darker than before. I could not stop shaving anymore because it looked really bad.

If you are worried about what a boy will say about your hairy legs...ask your mother to get you a bottle of nair (or any other depilatory cream). Wait on the shaving until the very last possible minute.

The depilatory creams like nair work really well, and your hair takes a little longer to grow back than with shaving.

They also don't make your hair grow in coarser because the cream dissolves the hair, rather than cutting it. So your legs feel smoother.

Plus...no pain!

When you get older, I recommend waxing rather than shaving!

Good luck!

Well, from a guys point of view. I think that if you feel uncomfortable about it, then you should do something about it. Like shave, wax, nair or the many other things on the market. It may help with your self-esteem. I mean I would hate for you not to exhibit your full pontential, because you think you have hairy legs. ~#41

It it bothers you then talk to your mom about shaving. I started shaving in sixth grade. Just remember when you start shaving you have to do it at least once a week. So as long as your ready to take that step then talk to your mom and have her take you to the store to pick up supplies. At first it's scary, because you might worry about cutting yourself, but it doesn't hurt. Also, the intuition brand razors are the best- I've used them for two years and I've never cut myself on them.

Hair is a natural thing at your age, and so is feeling insecure about it. I'm in 8th grade now and shave, I HAVE too. Don't worry about it. There's some girls in my gym class who don't, and they're 13-14. Once you and your mom both agree it's fine to start, then you can.

it sounds weird to me. teach making all the class come over as he inspected your shins. sounds like he wanted everyone there so he could feel your legs and have an alibi. i would ask your parents about it, yea you can shave, but when i was a kid when we got kicked, they sent us to the nurse. maybe not a big thing, but in today's world....i would be careful. you can e mail me at duckhouse@nnex.net if ya want with parents permission only. but it sure sounds like something is fishy. i hope he is not attracted to your legs and used it as an excuse. yes it seems i went too far but others do to. i have been burned so please share with your parents and don't be shy. tell em everything

It doesn't meter how old you are. if you have hairy legs and want to shave, go for it. just ask your mom first. start your conversation like this,"mom, I'm afraid of my hairy legs. maybe i should try shaving". never and ever you arguments like this "everybody does it" or "you don't understand". if she wont agree with you change your "strategy" of talking. when she agree, ask her more about shaving. ask her to help you in choosing shaving creme and razor.
my very good friend started shaving when she was 11, because of her hairy legs.
so there is nothing bad about shaving or waxing.
Good luck!!!

I think around 6th grade was about the time I started shaving. Talk to your mom about it.
