well I asked earlier if I could substitute brown for granulated sugar and I got wonderful answers. But, what if instead of brown sugar I used powdered sugar? which would make my cookies taste better?

Well, sugar is sugar. Brown sugar is simply white sugar with the molasses added back into it. Powdered sugar is, you guessed it, powdered white sugar. I would theorize, then that if in a pinch you needed brown sugar but only had powdered on hand, you could use the powdered sugar in the recipe provided that you add a little molasses to the recipe, as well. I would also theorize, that, in the case of cakes or cookies, that this might also change the texture a bit, too.

Hope this helps,
Vince

DO not use white or powdered sugar if a recipe calls for brown sugar. I use brown sugar for white sugar all the time since I like the mild flavor. I find white sugar has no flavor except--you guessed it--sweet!

It won't work. Powdered sugar is very sweet and would overpower the cookies. Maple syrup as a substitute; unfortunately, I cannot remember the equation.

ok every one seems to be correct Do not do it its not because the powdered sugar is way sweeter though, its because Powdered sugar is about 50% cornstarch!, that is what is going to mess up your cookies. the texture and flavor will be wrong not to mention they may not cook right at all.

I think that would drastically change the taste. I wouldn't think that would be a good substitution.
