If he ever did return (I'm not holding my breath), I am certain that most Christians who today are gleefully expecting his return will be among those most disappointed.

If the REAL Jesus returned (yes, I'm a Christian and I believe He will), and I could tell that His method of returning contradicted what the bible says it will be.... well, I'd have to disavow Christianity as a whole.
Some people would accept Him anyhow and try to find a way to explain away the contradiction. Others would think Him to be Satan or a false messiah, since the Bible does foretell of false messiahs coming.
But if the REAL Jesus came back, and it turned out He had lied in the Bible about how He'd do it, then we shouldn't accept Him. In fact if there was a single instance of contradiction in scripture, I'd look for a different source for the Truth.

Only Jesus can do that, in the way the bible says. This is one of the bigger "if" questions I have seen in a while. I doubt you would see someone impersonating Jesus, ushering in the kingdom of heaven the way the bible says, so you probably have nothing to worry about. When he was here the first time, all his actions supported who he says he is, and was, at that time. I would highly recommend people do a simple test, or follow him around a while like they did then. You would have to be crazy to think Jesus was Satan. He can be disguised as an angel of light however. Basically, miracles, sinless, and exactly as scripture tells. When the antichrist comes, he will be seen by many for what he is, but will also be seen as a savior of sorts. Not Jesus, however.

The moon turns red, the sun is blackened, and everyone will see Him. Astrologically the first two are extremely unlikely because an object larger than the earth would have to eclipse the sun, no such object crosses our orbit, and the moon would have to be in correct position.
Revelation 6
12 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind.
Matthew 24
29"Immediately after the distress of those days" 'the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'
30"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

I dont live according to hypotheticals or what if's. Jesus is coming back for His Church and that is the truth. If you dare to question this, you need to re think about whom you serve.. The Almighty God or satan. I serve God.
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding
Christians are not to attempt to place doubt into the minds or hearts of other Christians. Because if you do, you are not doing the work of God, but of satan.
Jesus is coming back for His church exactly the way the bible describes it. He will not step one foot upon this ground but call all the dead in Christ to rise first, and then the rest of His Christians shall assend into heaven with Him. If you are a true born again Christian, you wont' have to worry about those false christs, for you automatically know they not Jesus but that of satan. Jesus will come and get His Church just the way the scriptures says He will.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Revelation 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
Psalms 118:8 It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

In Jesus' terminology you have built your presupposing on sand.
I certainly believe in Jesus, and I believe in the original Bible texts/scrolls.
However, I do not believe that Jesus himself is returning to this very unsatisfactory planet.
Now, just how have the translations of the original Bible been twisted by Religious Empires who put pressure on the translators, especially the translators in 1611 when the Bible was first written in English.
Everytime you read the word "Jesus" in the Bible you might be shocked if you will simply substitute the term "Jesus' message".
It will make the entire Bible much easier to understand. And, it will eliminate a lot of apparent contradictions.
For example "Jesus' message" will usher in the Kingdom of Heaven"
Sorry for dropping that dime on you.
If you see it, please e-mail me, not to agree but help me explore that thought. If you don't see it, or you disagree, then I am sorry I wasted your time reading this.
(my book, listed below, is my attempt to make sense of the fact that I believe in God, I believe in the original texts of the Bible, I believe in Jesus and his words that his message was sent here to save the world, I believe in Evolution, I believe in fossil records, I believe in science (ie this Universe is 13.7 billion years old, while the Earth is only 4.5 billion years old) , I believe in advanced technology on another Planet, advanced evolution on another Planet, I believe God is / was a loving scientist from an advanced planet ....... And, he is the God mentioned in the original Bible texts.
All of these beliefs have been joined in a simple story with about 100 Bible references (subtlely) that have scientific explanations)

One of the things we should eventually pick up about God is that he rarely repeats his solutions, and finds displeasure in those who assume he does. Thats why he drove King Saul insane, Because Saul used God as a patsy for his own ambitions. Thus in thinking about Jesus, we should believe he will return at Gods command, not any persons, or the manner Jesus himself said, and for those who follow him only. It is said in Revelation that there will be two prophets who will heal the sick and be publiclly executed after they have exposed the anti-christ who has been disguised up until that time because it will displease the world so much, so we can rest assured that Jesus will not come alone to power. Now, that said, do you know someone with healing powers? Cherish them, there is always a need for the faithful to be attended to.

Well, the ANTI Christ is going to be thought by many to be Jesus Christ during the first part of his reign. The first 3 and a half years of the tribulation period, (after the rapture of the Christians), when the Anti Christ takes power, will be a time of world peace; but the Bible says it will be a FALSE peace. A lot of people will believe that he is Jesus, Himself because of this. It is during the LATTER half of the 7yr tribulation period that "all hell" literally will break loose on earth, as the former "peace treaties" are broken, the economy will break down, and people will have to take the mark of the beast.
So, if one knows their Bible, it's evident WHO this person would be, that tries to usher in the kingdom differently than Jesus, yet it's STILL foretold in the scriptures.
I hope this answers your question. ;-)

Revelation 13:11 And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

I think that Jesus is going to have one heck of a time convinicing the new world of his identity, no matter what the circumstances are. I mean, when you think about it, if someone said that they were Jesus, would you believe them?
