Parents like you to have lots of experience. You need a childcare license if you are going to sit several children. References are always good. A safe enviornment that is child proofed. (Gate, safety locks etc..) CRP/Safety training is preferred. Lots of educational toys and room for them to play. Sometimes providing meals is a plus

If you have a pool or spa it needs to be secured and gated

First, as a mom, I look for a sitter that has been certified by the American Red Cross. Check your local hospital for the next babysitting class. You'll learn child CPR and First Aid as well as how to handle emergency's.

I personally wouldn't call a young sitter that I just saw an ad for (and you might not want to sit for someone that is so desperate for a night out!) Word of mouth is the bast way. Offer your services to parents that work with your parents. Volunteer yourself at "childwatch" at your local YMCA or at your church. As you get familier with these kids and parents, offer up your number with an added "I love your kids so much, if you ever need a night out, I would love to baby sit for you, here's my number."

Also, when you take the red cross class, they will sometimes keep a listing for parents who call them looking for sitters.

Basically, you have to put yourself out there and even watch kids for free (like at the church or whatever) until you develop a relationship with parents. Once you develop that, you'll only need a couple of parents (that'll be enough to fill your weekends).

Good luck
