Probably just try to convert them. I mean if they take this "image of god" concept as having intelligence then i suppose they'd just treat them like people. [Unless they were asexual, so had to procreate with members of the same sex ;)]

I'm not worried about religion's reaction to aliens. After all, they already believe in angels, demons, created beings in other parts of the universe who did NOT succumb to Satan's temptations, etc.
My main concern is how atheistic scientists will react when they receive responses to all those radio-telescopes that are currently searching for ET. Would they recognize the real source of those signals?

Demons, I would imagine. The existence of ET life in the universe would go against the idea that religion sells that human beings are somehow special or unique. It would imply that we're really just one species of many species in the universe, and it would put many religions in a different light. They would really have no choice but to invent some negative explanation for aliens -- like they're really Satan testing our faith or something.

I remember one televangelist years ago railing against Star Trek's "prime directive" of non-interferance in alien cultures. He condemned this, arguing Christians were obligated to preach the "word of god" to aliens.
I wonder, if we came across a culture that took things literally, and did convert, and they took the Old Testament literally, would they wipe out the human race for not living up to those ancient, narrow-minded standards?
Be careful for what you wish. You may get it.

I think you would have to meet the aliens first and then make that decision. They could be like you and me or on the other hand they could be vicious demons.
There is no way to know until you see them first.

Probably call them demons!
Most religious fundamentalists (especially) are already mental in my book.

I`d take religion out the equation. The question is, what could they teach us.

I am going out on a limb and say both. But not all religious people would do it.

I would say it depends on the colour of their skin, if they are brown its likely they would just get shot for being terrorists.
