Anyone who thinks it's OK to lay a hand on a child in anger (whether you call it hitting, smacking, spanking or anything else) should smack themselves first. If they haven't gotten over their anger, they should take a cold (ice cold) shower. If that doesn't work, they should check themselves into a shelter or the local pound and spend a night in a kennel.
If a person doesn't have the maturity to patiently teach and guide their child to be self-respecting and respectful citizens, they should not spawn. The kids don't ask to be born. They are not punching bags.

Why would someone want to do such a thing anyway?
It is heartbreaking to think that there are people in this world that would intentional cause someone else to hurt.
I don't belive in spanking my children. I feel that talking with them and timeouts work for me and as a teenager to intentional hurt a friend is sad because they are old enough to understand that its wrong. And as adults to hurt one another is shameful.
So to asnwer you question NO i don't think that any one has the right or should intentionaly cause pain to anyone.

No, It's NEVER OK to hit a child!

Only a weak parent hasn't enough brain to 'teach' a child and has to resort to hitting them.

I assume you are tallking about spanking. If that is what you mean my answer is a resounding "Yes."

I already answered a question about the subject today. So I apologize for not going into detail here. But I did on an old blog entry (discussing the research on the subject): http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-GgIFACYzfqWx8YwvtspSWVmWzA--?cq=1&p=793

SOMETIMES FOR A PARENT YOU HAVE TO GIVE SPANK THEM (NOT TOO MUCH) SO THAT THEY WILL KNOW THAT'S NOT RIGHT AND LATER YOU CAN EXPLAIN TO THEM WHY THEY GOT A SPANK.
