I have a pit bull puppy, and i have asked questions about my pup before.Todays question is how do you determine if your pup is a pure breed? i dont have any papers on him and the mom has no papers either. He looks like a pit bull but how do i really know or is this guy just making money off of people with a lie?Not that it matters i bought the dog not for the name but to help get him out of a bad situation the owner is a bad breeder and im currently working with the law enforcment and humane society and a vet to get the last 7 puppys taken away.

If you don't have two parents with papers there is no proof of breeding. Nothing you can do about it.

There is no actual AKC recognized breed called the Pit Bull. A Pit Bull is simply a mix of bully looking breeds, such as the Staffordshire Terrier, Bull Dog, etc. So, even if your dog were a purebred pit bill, officially, it would still be a mixed breed.
Hope this helps, and kudos to you for giving a needy puppy a good home!

If you have a "pit bull".... chances are slim.

Now if you have an Am Staff....there is a possibility your pup could be a purebred. With the mother not having papers, you'll never know. I didn't see any mention of the sire of the litter..... DNA will only determine parentage...not breed

You don't know that he is purebred. Whenever you buy a dog without AKC papers, then you are taking a risk. Pit Bulls though, are not a recognized breed anyway.

The american kennel club has the DNA profiles of all breeds on file, so they can trace the breed of your dog this way. It does cost quite a bit. I know a guy who has a dog that looks like a pitt bull and due to the extreamly stupid pitt bull bylaws here he had a DNA profile done on his dog to determine that he was not a pitt bull mix.

The breeder should have the papers from the parents...if he don't then there is no way to tell...just that you have a beautiful pup
