Actually... Christians ARE atheists in the sense that they are without belief in all other deities besides theirs. Atheism is "without belief in the existence of a god or gods". That doesn't necessarily mean only the Christian god. You can believe in one god but still be without belief in the existence of all other deities. In that sense, we're all a little atheistic unless we believe in every god concept that has ever been conceived of.
The Christian and I are both atheists... I am just without belief in one more god.

By definition, no. However, if you're an agnostic, you might believe in the *possibility* that there is a god. Also, you might ask, which god? Different religions have different gods. And some people may just believe that the universe is god. There are more possible ways to believe in God than simply the god of the Bible. Chance are people believe in the god they were raised to believe in. Therefore their view of god may not be accurate; it's simply the one they are accustomed to.

I think people decide to pretend that there is no God because it is convenient. After a while they forget they were pretending and don't believe there is a God. I think a person could decide they don't believe there is a God even thought the nagging suspicion still exists in their minds. It is a faith actually. They have faith that there is no God. It is how they choose to live their lives on the presupposition that there is no God choosing to ignore reality all around them.

The definition of an atheist:
A person who denies or disbelieves in the existence of God.
NO...One cannot be an atheist and believe in God. That would be a contradiction. However, one can be an agnostic and believe in the existence of God.
The definition of an agnostic: One who disclaims any knowledge of God but does not deny the possibility of God's existence.

Theos is God in Greek. So Atheist is denying Theos.
The devil is an atheist and knows there is a God, but the devil usually blinds the atheist human to the truth of the existance of God.

YES!!!!!!
I am an atheist who believes in god because I do not define or believe god is a supreme being or deity. So yes, you can be. An atheist is just someone who doesn't believe in deities. They can still believe in the concept of the "soul" and even a heaven and hell.

An atheist is someone who believes there is no god. You can compare it to similar words such as monotheism (one god), and polytheism (many gods).
Someone who doesn't believe in a particular religion, but believes there is possibly some higher power (whatever that may be) is usually considered agnostic.

In the Greek: a= no, theos= god, therefore, an athiest believes that there is no sumpreme being or beings, such as God. You can hardly believe in God, or even in a god, if you go by that label!
