Not to dissrespect Jesus and all that he stands for, I can understand where this question is coming from. If Jesus did know the Romans were coming to kill him why did he not leave? Its not suicide because suicide means that you kill yourself by your own hand, but it is, in a way, giving up on life. He probably did this, to essentially be a martyr, because how can one be a martyr if they don't die for a cause. Death earned Jesus much credibility.

How do you equate self-sacrifice with suicide? Suicide is a desperate act by one who has lost all hope. Self-sacrifice is hardly that! The defendersof the Alamo were hardly commiting sucide!

So, if I whip you till the skin comes off your back. Then make you drag your cross on your back to the hill top. Then me and my buddies nail you to it, spit on you and stab you in your side just under your rib cage. Is this a suicide? I think not.. Suicide is death by your own hand not others. Get in focus man...That's why Christianity has gone in so many directions. Because people like you connect your own dots to create your own picture. Fools all of you....

While I suspect that your question isn't intended to attain understanding, but to mock, I will answer it as if it is sincere. Would you accuse a cop or a soldier who protected you at the expense of his own life of committing suicide? Jesus chose to put your welfare above his own. There is no greater love than one who lays down his life so that others may live.

No
Sacrificing himself like a child is about to be hit by a car and an adult pushes the child out of the way and takes the hit instead. Otherwise we would have had to pay for our own sins and suffer for them.

Well, if you read Matt. 26:39,42 it doesn't sound like it to me. However, you can believe that it is suicide if you wish. But, even if it is suicide, then that does not condemn Him to hell ,nor anyone else either. You misunderstand Christianity. One does not go to hell for their sins-as Christ has paid for all sins with his death. One goes to hell for rejecting God's free pardon through Christ's death. It is very foolish to go to hell, when you have been offered a free ticket out-and reject it.

Sacrificing oneself for the greater good is not to be equated with suicide. And to be sure, Jesus did go to Hell, where he ransomed the captives of purgatory and took back the keys.

Word games.
In that case, all criminals that commit crimes, know they will eventually get caught and go to jail and some will face the death penalty, are those committing suicide? Criminals that are in car chases, shoot outs with cops, are they actually committing suicide?
I just hate it when atheist THINK they are being cleaver and play their little word games.

Commiting sucicde means that you actually killed yourself. He didn't, the Romans did. The reason he didn't run away because His Father said that it would all be fine after he was killed, he couledn't disobey God.
