Atheists believe in what scientists tell them. If scientists tell them there is a possibility of extraterrestrials, then atheists put their faith in that, even though there is no proof, just speculation. Yet an atheist, while in good shape, will not believe in something beyond life. Of course in the end, many change their minds. As the saying goes, "there are no atheists in foxholes."

There's no reason for an atheist not to believe in the *possibility* of alien life. I would just want evidence for alien life, just like I want evidence for the existence of God, Thor, Santa Claus, The Spaghetti Monster, or the ghost of Elvis.

(P.S. I'm sure there are atheists in many foxholes. Can the poster below provide any evidence that there are not?)

We are 'space aliens' to other societies out there.... Alien just means not from an area. And yes, I think the ratio is about a 99.99999991 percent chance (saw it in a couple of books and the history channel), that there is other societies out there. The chance we will ever contact or be contacted by one of them, not so great.

No. They only believe in what's provable. You might as well ask if space aliens believe in the Easter Bunny.

Given the fact that there are more planets in the universe than there are grains of sand on every beach on earth chances are excellent that life formed on other planets. Whether or not they have evolved enough to discover a way to travel between solar systems is another question...I'm not so sure about that one.

I believe that there is a possibility. I think that believing that aliens exist aside from believing in god is a lot more reasonable, we are on earth, and as far as we have theorized, there are milions of galaxies.

It's possible that there are aliens out there, but it's not proven so I can't say I believe

I would say we can assume a reasonbable probability of them existing somewhere in the vastness. Of course, one would have to understand how insignificant human are in comparison to the scale of the universe to get that probability estimate.
