It's an eggplant. Those dark purple things at the store. Use them when a recipe calls for aubergine. Same things, different names.

Aubergine is eggplant..so called because..early on.. the eggplant was yellow and white and looked like eggs.

It is like eggplant, it sort of looks like a huge purple potato! They also have white skinned ones as well.
