WHY DO MORE PEOPLE SAY "I AM BLESSED!!!!!" WHEN THEY GET A NEW CAR, OR WHEN THEY GET A NEW PURSE, OR A NEW HUGE DIAMOND RING ?? BUT NOT MANY SAY GOD BLESSED THEM BECAUSE HE WOKE THEM UP THIS MORINING, OR BECAUSE YOU HAVE FOOD ON THE TABLE, OR BECAUSE YOU HAVE YOUR GOOD HEALTH, OR EVEN BECAUSE YOU HAVE FAMILY THAT LOVES YOU? IT SEEMS LIKE THESE DAYS EVERYONE IS JUST NOTICING ALL THE MATERIAL THINGS IN LIFE.

SORRY IF I'M GETTING ON MANY OF YOU GUYS NERVES WITH THESE QUESTIONS IM JUST CURIOUS.

The reason that many people say I'm blessed when they have materialistic things is because their mind is set to think that a blessing is something that they want instead of something that is need and they don't see the big picture even though that it is a blessing when you get something like a car, purse, clothes but when they go without something that they need like a loving family, food on your table, good health, roof over their head they're going to long for it and when they get it and realize that God blessed them with family, friend, health, peace, love, and another day they will say that I'm blessed because god gave me family, friends, health and etc.

I totally agree with you. I think that so many are into material things that they do not see the blessings that we all have so much of. When I wake up I say alhumdulilah (glory be to Allah) I am thankful for everything, even something as tiny as a raindrop. See we are all blessed in different ways, some are wealthy and some are poor, but that is what Allah has decreed for us from the start. I do not care about new cars, diamond rings and expensive clothes. I care about humanity and trying to help those much less fortunate than me. There is always someone who has it worse than the other.

Kent_ Shakespear, May you be blessed with a more tolerant disposition. All caps should be the most annoying thing in your life. If so I'd say you were blessed.

Crystal, you are right again. We are becoming materialistic. Another reaon is that all the blessings you mentioned - living for another day, having a loving family, etc - are everyday routine. We tend to take such things for granted and rarely value them until we lose them.

That is why religion (speaking about mine, Islam) encourages us to reflect upon the blessings we have and be grateful to Allah for bestwoing them on us, even the indirect ones; this lovely sun that rises up everyday to fill us with warmth and light, etc.

Peace

Because sadly, we take these things for granted. When things are going good people tend to start relying on themselves instead of God. Then when a miracle happens or when we're in trouble, we tend to wake up and remember that He exists. I think we should thank Him for the stuff He's blessed us with, big and small, much more often than we do.

Thank you for your good points. God doesn't bless us with excessively materialistic things in life, like diamond rings and new cars. God blessed us with our breath, with our family and friends, with our health, with the beauty in the world. Material things aren't blessings. We give those to ourselves.

Now a days, people worship material goods, and put other god's before the all mighty without even realizing it. going through the prayers by memory, without commitment or feeling, just to get it out of the way from the really important things, like their new Nintendo wii. (Of course, you must remember that devout followers of Christ are completely opposite of the ones I've described here)

Because for some reason, they feel that God looks out for them, and curses everyone else. Don't know why, as when bad things happen, they don't say that God is cursing them. When bad things happen to other people, they say God is cursing those people, for what ever they imagine they have done.

By they way, capitals in a post, suggests you are shouting, angry and or being a horrible person, which I'm sure you are not.

Blessed really means highly favoured. Although most people do not consider being alive, being healthy, having commonsense to enable one to question certain things - like you just did, etc. as being blessed, having or receiving material things really have nothing to do with being favored by God.

Saint Paul told the Athenians that God was the one in whom “we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28)

We should always remember that. Every breath we take is a blessing.
