Beach masters are still in use in the navy. They are in the seabee units their job is to organize the beach landing operations and command all units on the beach and only the beach. Hence the name beach master.

The Marine Corps also had an MOS for beach master. They were sort of like traffic cops at the beach head. They told incoming units where to go, designated supply points etc. The term is used as a job description and had people of various ranks.

An officer controlling troops and supplies landing on a beach. He directs them to their destination according to the plan of attack. He's usually a Major.

i believe US Navy Seabees still have that postion available for beach operations that need alot of instuction..command/etc...
