The Christian comment is a dualistic (i.e., black-or-white) perspective on life. The atheistic one dismisses such dualism as not helpful. With the Christians, the only hope for improvement is via God. Atheists are more optimistic about secular possibilities.
While I don't believe that atheists are all for doing away with religion, I do believe atheists are in favor of not giving religion a free ride when it comes to intellectual discussions. People can believe what they want, but they can't be expected not to have those beliefs scrutinized closely.

wow, i didnt even know other people thought like me. GOD believers think the world is cursed and going nowhere and the people are bad and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Except use the word of GOD to change their minds.
Really?? Religion is getting in the way of being happy and friendly people. Discussions about the quailty of human life are shot down by believers who think it will all be better once they die??
How about the people that WANT TO LIVE because they know they got 80 rotations around the sun and then it's all over. Thats all you have you know, there isn't some great happy land for the people that were good all their lives, you die just like that deer that got shot, Humans have been evolving for 4 millions years, you can't debate the "exact" science that god made, carbon is released at the same rate, never stops(god made it this way right?) So god must of made us 3 1/2 feet tall and looked like distant monkeys 4 millions years ago. There are even footprints in africa that have been dated to 3 million years ago, (it was on yahoo)
Come on people, everyone knows there is something out there, but when you start saying my god is right yours is wrong, War and Hate is what follows, you create your own Hell on earth this way

eh...no...not the second part anyway. The Christian comment means that we (human beings) screwed it up. It says nothing to support doing away with religion. What the Christian comment does confirim is the atheists fact that Christians are told that we are not inherently good. (I would say we are not inherently evil either, but rather more like the animals). It does not confirm that "solutions are not valued or even thought about". Though it does not state a solution, I don't believe that was in the scope of the original question.

They both cancel each other out with poor grammar and spelling mistakes.
The age old argument between atheists and "God believers" is mostly funny. Whether one believes there IS a God or one believes there IS NO God cannot be proven scientifically or spiritually. That is why it is called belief.
Whatever gives one comfort while accepting another's right to life and freedom is just fine. Live and let live. Casual dialog is entertaining while discussing specific issues, especially one as controversial as faith, but too often it devolves into name calling diatribes.

I think that Christianity is a very strange religion, I think that Atheism is kinda peculiar, too. But I've met people who believe both views who were really nice, and genuine. just some are wacko on either side, just like with any kind of belief, there's bound to be some extremists. Even in My own faith!

Never mind other people: what about you? Don't you find in yourself both good and bad? good desires and one's you'd rather not have; doing things you wish you hadn't later?
The world is OK dangerous but OK - we muck it up by our selfishness and lack of love for others above ourselves. The great religions teach us ways to deal with this: Christianity, Muslim, Buddhism....
But as always there are people who take good things and by their selfishness, foolishness and lack of love turn them into evil forces: the Christian Crusades; the Stalinist persecutions (Marxism isn't a bad idea) The Muslim scourges of the Middle ages etc. etc....
What about you??

I have found that many religious people are pessimistic about the world around them. I do not know if it is religion that is making them pessimistic or if religion attracts already pessimistic people.
I know many optimistic people who are religious, but there is a large minority that have this horrible view of the human race.

People miss the logic. If God made everything perfect, we wouldn't have screwed everything up. Its like saying, I made the china shop perfect and I put a perfect bull in it. It's not my fault if all the glass gets broken.

You remind me of another poster earlier today who says he enjoys watching Christians fail and lose their faith. Why, as a self proclaimed atheist, won't you let sleeping dogs lie?
