Do anybody know if Cathay will order the A350 in the near future to replace the older A330 in the fleet to fly to thin long-haul and regional flights

I mean with a large fleet of A330, and the A350 is very similar, it will cost less for Cathay to switch pilots from A330 to A350

No. The new A350(XWB) is bigger than the A330 and more like the size of the T7. So it is more likely that they will order the B787 to replace the A330

The Airbus 350 will compete directly with the Boeing 787. Boeing has more than 420 orders already and will start deliveries in a little more than a year while Airbus' 350 is still on the drawing board (they're about ten years behind with this program) Cx will order aircraft according to their needs in th next few years. but Airbus is at a definite disadvantage. Airbus execs initially thought that the 787 was an aircraft which no one would order. Boy, were they wrong!

Naw. I think they will stick with the 777 and buy the 787.
