i am 17, and my mother always told me i do not have to go to church every sunday just to prove i believe in god, she says i must have faith within me, and know in my heart, and she also told me most people who attend church are the devils themselves, because they judge eachother, and most just hold alot of drama, and yes i know some VERY MEAN people that are in churches to keep busy, and ignore the reason why their really there, and that is to praise god.

You make some interesting points, some of which I have thought of myself. There are a lot of bad people in church. Hypocrites, devils, better than thous and others who come to church just so people can see how many material things "they have been blessed with".

But there are also a lot of good, positive, people that are interested in improving their community and the world. If you go to clubs, there are plenty of devils and hypocrites there. If you go to sports events, same thing. Yet we still go. For some reason, it's only when it comes to God, we get all particular and look for perfection in people.

Everyone path to God is different I believe. I don't know if someone has to go to church every Sunday to "prove" they believe in God, but I see nothing wrong with praising God everyday.

Unfortunately, not everyone that goes to Church is a true believer, but some are. Don't put them all in one category. I think it also depends if you believe that Jesus is your Savior. If you do, then you are a Christian and it doesn't matter what church you go to. If you want to attend church, try a few. People are always welcome in a House of God. Fellowship with others that share your beliefs can help keep your faith strong. Don't give up after one bad experience and don't judge all based on the actions of a few. Good luck and God Bless.

The Christian walk is an INDIVIDUAL walk. How you walk before God 24 hours a day 7 days a week dictates whether you will be accepted of God. The word Christian means to be Christ like.....or to become more as Christ is. Except you take Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour how can anyone say that they are a christian. Just believing in God alone will not do it. If you study the Word of God and follow after the teachings of Jesus, then shall you be a true christian. Don't focus on how other people who say they are christians but their actions deny their words, say or do.

You walk up-right before the Lord and all will be well with you.

Do you believe in Jesus? That he was God's son and died on the cross for our sins? Then rose on the 3rd day? If you do you are a christian. The bible says"Do no forsake assembly together" which means go to church with other believers. Isn't everyone a hypocrite? Don't we all "sin and fall short of the glory of God?" Bible says for you to increase your faith you need to hear the word of God. "Faith comes by hearing the word of God". Are you growing in your faith?
Think about this, Satan knows and believes Jesus is the Christ.....So believing he's God's son is not getting you to heaven-you must have faith and love him...and grow in him. You only have to account for yourself, why care what others are like in church? The apostles and the early Christians met on the first day of the week. Isn't that an example of how we should worship? Pray about it. Think about it. Is it possible your mom is using others as an excuse to not attend a church?
Just some thoughts.

Hi Crystal, look most people get it wrong about Sunday worship, we do not go because we to prove that we believe in God , we go because as the body members of Christ we want to give glory and worship to God, it is up to every person to get this right within themselves and ignore those statements that are designed to put us of, if it is in your heart to worship and give glory to God then what does it matter what other people say or do?

I'm in the same postition. I prefer to toy with the ideas. I do believe god is something and I do believe in jesus. However, I hate how the christian church conforms god to a single idea, and atheists can be just as close-minded as anyone. I am not a christian. I'm a philosoher. You don't need a religion to discover what you believe in.

maybe you could start to pray to God(the god of Abraham Isaac and Jacob) and ask for understanding. To show that you really desire the truth, begin by reading the Bible, try to get the sense of it.
When you are done reading, ask yourself, what is the overall meaning of what i have read?
If you set a goal of reading 8 chapters a day, you should complete your reading in less than a year. Compare what you have read to the teachings of whatever church you are have attended. As you read the New Testament, think about the primary activity of Jesus and those that were his followers. Think about their activity after Jesus returned to the heavens.
A person who would define them-self as a Christian should probably have the same activities as those who were called Christians in the Bible.
If not, how is it that they are "christian"?

Dear, you are right and your mother is right too. Many people who go to prayer places, be them Christians as you refered to, or muslims as I am one, are hypocrites and just go there to show off and judge each other.

However, there are very good ones who go there to worship Allah (God) and pay tribute to Him. Even if you do not go to church and have Allah in your heart, you need to express that love to Him. How would you do this? Obey His orders.

How would you do what God orders you to do unless you know what religion you believe in and follow? Morals are the core of all religions. But what about rituals? As a muslim, I obey Allah by praying five times a day, fasting in Ramadan, hajj to Kaaba in Mecca, etc. What about you?

Think and pray for guidance from the Lord (Allah). In the meantime, do not try to classify and label yourself. You are who you are; a very mature young girl who is good at heart and is seeking truth.

Peace

I have the same issue. People always call me an agnostic, but that is a misnomer because I KNOW what I believe. I just don't have a religion. Agnostic means that one does not know what he/she believes. People just assume it applies to not having a specific religion.

Many people use the phrase, "I am spiritual, but not religious" to define the type of beliefs you and I have. I am not comfortable with that, either...it sounds a bit "New Age" to me. How about we say we are..."Believers without a religion." Sound good?

well, if you believe in ONE God, you are a monothiest, if u belive in Christ, don't be afraid to call yourself a Christian, and your right about the churches these days, but a real christian has nothing to do with going to church, it's about how u live, do you do good, are you living up right, do you have love/ respect/ faith ect.. are you caring/ humble/ understaning etc... Going to church in just an activity some christians take part in to praise God together, and talk about stuff (sometimes pointless, but it can be interesting).
